About the Role

The Works Officer - Truck Operator/Labourer is responsible for the secure and effective operation of a medium rigid tipper truck, labouring tasks and associated plant used across maintenance and construction activities primarily for road and storm water infrastructure.

This full-time position is based at Council’s Westbury depot, around 25 minutes from Launceston. The ordinary hours of work for this position are 38 hours per week, generally worked between 6am - 4pm Monday to Friday. A rostered day off arrangement will apply in accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement. Working hours may vary based on weather conditions, road maintenance priorities, traffic management requirements, asset renewal programs and emergency response activities.





The Works Officer - Truck Operator/Labourer may be required to participate in reasonable overtime including occasional weekend or public holiday work when operations require, after-hours call outs and/or responding to emergencies like storm and infrastructure damage.

The total salary package will be negotiated subject to the successful candidate's experience and training with base hourly rate from $35.45 plus superannuation. Applicable overtime and allowances are paid in addition to the agreed base hourly rate.

About You

You will have at least two years relevant experience and a Certificate III in Civil Construction, or an equivalent combination of skills, training and experience. A medium rigid licence is required plus Traffic Control (TC1) and Management Implementation (TMI1) accreditation or willingness to obtain, as well as a Construction Industry White Card, Chainsaw licence/competency and First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain. Competency to operate other maintenance and construction plant such as a wheel loader, backhoe or roller is required.

You will be a team player with demonstrated experience relating to road construction, drainage, kerb and channel, footpath and other civil infrastructure works.



You will have a practical understanding of safe work requirements in high-risk environments and be willing to contribute to ongoing continuous improvement initiatives.
