Balmain Dog Walkers has been caring for the dogs and families of Balmain, Rozelle and the Inner West for over 15 years.

We have a wonderful, loyal client base and a team who genuinely love and care for the dogs we walk.

Due to an unexpected change in our team, we're looking for an experienced Dog Walker / Pet Care Professional who can join us immediately, and progress quickly towards independently managing regular group walks.

We're specifically looking for someone with professional dog handling or animal care experience, who already has a solid understanding of dog behaviour, safe handling, walking multiple dogs on and off leash, and the responsibility involved in caring for much-loved pets.

The Role

You'll be responsible for:

- Safely collecting and returning dogs from clients' homes.

- Walking and managing groups of up to four dogs.

- Keeping dogs safe, happy, engaged and well supervised throughout their walks.

- Reading dog body language and responding appropriately to different behaviours and situations.

- Maintaining awareness of dogs, people, traffic and the surrounding environment at all times.

- Monitoring each dog's health, wellbeing and behaviour and reporting any concerns.

- Communicating warmly and professionally with clients.

- Taking quality photos and short videos during walks.

- Working independently once training and competency requirements have been completed.

- Representing Balmain Dog Walkers professionally within our local community.

Group dog walking is a highly active and dynamic role.

You'll need to remain calm, focused and aware while managing multiple dogs, changing environments and the occasional unexpected situation.

Safety, kindness, good judgement and attentive care always come first.

Who We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in applicants with professional experience in areas such as:

- Group dog walking

- Professional dog walking or pet care

- Dog daycare or boarding

- Dog training or behaviour

- Veterinary nursing

- Kennels or animal care





- Other professional dog-handling roles

Professional group dog walking experience will be highly regarded.

You should also be someone who:

- Is calm, grounded and confident around dogs.

- Can safely manage multiple on and off leash dogs at once.

- Has good situational awareness and can remain highly focused while working.

- Understands canine body language and behaviour.

- Has excellent judgement and puts safety first.

- Is reliable, responsible and trustworthy.

- Can follow established procedures and instructions.

- Is open to feedback and enjoys learning.

- Communicates respectfully and works well as part of a team.

- Is comfortable making sensible decisions independently once trained.

- Is organised and able to adapt when schedules or circumstances change.

- Is physically fit and genuinely enjoys an active outdoor role.

- Takes pride in providing exceptional care and customer service.

- Understands that every dog in our care is a much-loved and important family and pack member.

This is an active job of walking each day in all weather conditions, so you'll need to be comfortable with the physical demands of the role.

Hours

We currently have an immediate need for weekday availability, Monday to Friday.

Typical hours are approximately: 8:45 - 3:30pm

There is much growth and long term potential in this role.

We're looking for someone who wants to become a trusted, long-term member of our team.

The position will initially be casual, with the opportunity to move into permanent part-time or full time employment structure for the right person.

Pay

$35–$38 per hour + superannuation, depending on experience.

Fuel allowance is provided if using your own suitable vehicle.

Or a car and fuel will be provided.

Essential Requirements





- Current Australian driver's licence with a good driving record. Ability to drive a manual car (preferred but not a show stopper).

- Australian working rights suitable for an ongoing role.

- NSW Police Check, or willingness to obtain one.

- Modern smartphone and willingness to use our dog-walker app.

- Availability during our core weekday walking hours.

- Ability to meet the physical requirements of an active outdoor role.

- Professional experience handling or caring for dogs or animals.
