Most Head of Growth roles are ad buying jobs with a better title. You inherit someone else's funnel, you get a budget you didn't set, you report numbers into a committee, and the actual growth decisions get made two levels above you.
This is not that. Here is what is actually on the table in this seat:
- A real budget with real authority. Five figure daily spend, $10,000 to $30,000 a day, and the mandate to move it based on your read of the numbers. You don't submit optimisation requests. You make the call, you own the outcome, and you are held to account for the results it produces or doesn't. Authority and accountability arrive together here. You cannot have one without the other.
- The whole funnel, not just the ad account. Landing pages, success page tests, re-engagement sequences, show up rates. Everything between the click and the sales call is yours to test, break, iterate and improve. Most growth roles stop at the ad account. This one stops at the sales call, because that is where the money actually gets made.
- A team. Email, content and tech sit under you, plus media buyers to hire and develop or AI skills to deploy onto the account. You are running a marketing system, not a Meta dashboard.
And read this part carefully: do not apply if you are removed from the ad account. This seat requires dirt under the fingernails skill. Real hands on the tools, real knowledge you own, not a Claude skill you half trust doing the thinking for you - then when sh*t goes bad you have no idea what to do yourself.
- A direct line to the founder. You work with me on strategy weekly. No layers, no politics, no waiting for sign off from someone who has never run an ad account. When you need a decision, you get it in the weekly 1-1 session we have, immediately.
- A scoreboard that pays. $160k to $180k plus super base, performance incentives on top, and a genuine pathway: Head of Growth Marketing to Director of Growth to CMO. We promote from performance, not tenure. The scoreboard & your results decide, not the calendar.
If you read that list and felt a bit of excitement, keep reading.
Who We Are and Where This Is Going
eCom Capital is one of Australia's fastest growing eCommerce companies. We help D2C founders build and scale real Shopify brands.
Not with theory. We show them exactly what works and hold them to a standard while they do it. We are a team of around 55 people, based on the Gold Coast and remotely.
The vision is simple: become the place every serious eCommerce founder in Australia comes to build an epic brand. That means growing hard, for years, without ever compromising on client results. This role is one of the seats that decides whether that happens.
Why This Role Matters
Paid acquisition feeds everything. Every lead you generate is a founder betting on themselves to build something. When you get CAC down or show up rates up, that is not a dashboard win.
That is more of the right people getting on calls with our sales team and more clients getting results.
The commercial impact of this seat is direct and weekly. You will see the effect of your decisions in revenue within days, not quarters. There is no version of this company hitting its vision without this role performing. That is the weight of the seat, and it is also the opportunity of it.
What You Will Actually Do
- Run the paid engine. Full ownership of the acquisition funnel. Leads, MQLs, SQLs, booked calls, show ups, CAC, ROAS. Daily optimisation across targeting, bids, budgets and audiences. (if you had to look up any of the definitions of that jargon - you probably aren't the right person for this role)
Weekly cycle of launch, analyse, optimise, scale.
Scale winners fast, kill losers faster.
Hesitation on a losing ad set is just donating money to Meta.
- Drive the creative testing loop. Work with the creative team to ship new hooks, angles and iterations every single week. Keep a backlog of test ready scripts and variations, and use the data from what has already run to make the next round better. You don't make the creative. You make the creative accountable.
- Own the full funnel. Landing page tests, success page video tests, re-engagement sequences for no shows and cancels (we expect around 20% recovery), show up rate improvements through comms. If it sits between the click and the sales call, it is yours. No handballing, no grey zones.
- Lead the marketing team. Email, content and tech sit under you. You drive the marketing system as a whole and mentor the junior media buyers and creative team along the way. You also work closely with sales, CS and product so marketing runs on real feedback. Actual client results, actual objections from calls, actual product changes. Not assumptions. Marketing built on assumptions is just expensive fiction.
- Report like an operator. A weekly executive pack: spend, leads, CPL, booked calls, CPA, CAC, ROAS, MQL to SQL conversions and revenue impact, what you tested, what won, what is blocked, and what you are doing next week.
Live attribution through Hyros, GA4 and Custom Datahubs. Metrics translated into decisions, not data dumps.
If a number doesn't change a decision, it doesn't belong in the pack.
How You Will Be Measured
Simple scoreboard, reviewed weekly:
- Booked call volume vs target
- Conversions of MQLs into SQLs
- CPL, CPA and CAC vs target
- Show up rate
- SQL quality and quantity, improving week on week
- Creative iterations shipped and winners found
- Creative volume tested with winner percentage increasing
- Profitable ROAS while scaling spend
Peak periods like Black Friday are where this role earns its money.
Costs spike, everyone panics, and the good operators stay calm and keep the machine profitable. That is the standard.
Anyone can look valuable in March. This seat is judged in November.
Who This Is For
- You have personally owned a marketing P&L.; Not contributed to one or been in the meeting when a P&L; was reviewed - but actually owned one - I call this "one throat to choke" - sound rough I know - but the visual is whats required to ensure there is clear responsibility and ownership and if that is too much for you. Do not waste your time in applying. You have been the person accountable when the numbers were good and when they weren't.
- You have run large performance budgets for lead generation or consulting businesses. Five plus years minimum, with daily spend in the $10,000 to $30,000 range. This is non negotiable, because judgement at this spend level only comes from having been there.
- You think in numbers and systems. You can tell me your CACs, your ROAS, your best test and your worst month without checking your notes. If you have to look it up, you weren't really running it.
- You take ownership of everything in your lane, including the things that went wrong. Never blaming, never dismissing. The market, the pixel, the creative team and the algorithm are inputs to manage, not excuses to hide behind.
- You treat marketing like a sport. Weekly scoreboard, high standards, and you actually enjoy being pushed. If accountability feels like pressure to you, this seat will crush you. If it feels like fuel, you will love it here.
- You are fluent in attribution, tracking and CRO. Hyros and GA4 should not need explaining.
- You're a learner and a student, never finished, never "complete" always a work in progress and always can learn from anyone on the team because of the detail and nuance they bring in their area of specialisation.
Who This Is Not For
If you need briefs handed to you, if your results live in someone else's case study, if you have never personally owned a marketing P&L;, or if “we're testing that next quarter” is a sentence you are comfortable saying, don't apply.
There is no middle ground in this seat.
Our Company Values, Because You Will Be Measured Against Them
You will be expected to live these daily.
They are not words on a wall. If these don't describe you, don't bother applying.
- Default to Drive. Speed, clarity, output. Imperfect action beats perfect planning.
- Be the Source. Solve from first principles. Force new things into life. Create from zero.
- Build in Public, Deliver in Silence. No theatrics. No need for recognition or praise. Just results.
- Hold the Line. Standards over feelings. Feelings go up and down. The results must remain.
- Give a F*ck. Underpinning everything: a deep, obsessive care for outcomes and for the clients we serve.
What's Next
If you are the person I have described, you already know it.
So apply the way a true marketer would get someone's attention.
Proof, numbers and facts, demonstrated via a Loom video.
Show me the accounts you have run, the spend levels, the CACs, the wins and the scars.
The Loom is the first test of whether you can sell with evidence, because that is the entire job.
