About the role
We're looking for an experienced HR practitioner to take ownership of our on-demand HR service for businesses that want trusted HR support without employing their own HR person. Your first job will be getting to know clients, earning their trust and becoming the person they naturally call when something comes up. We want someone who can retain responsiveness while gradually making the relationship more proactive – understanding each client's business, anticipating what's coming and identifying sensible opportunities to strengthen their people practices before something becomes a problem. You'll be their HR person. One conversation might be about interpreting an Award or managing a performance issue. Another might involve helping an owner think through a restructure, reviewing a contract, coaching a manager through a difficult conversation or simply helping someone work out what they should do next.
Key responsibilities
- Create a straightforward and consistent diagnostic for new and existing clients so we understand their business, workforce, risks and priorities
- Keep useful client information and activity visible through our CRM rather than relying on what's in someone's head
- Use client information and reporting to identify patterns, risks and opportunities
- Check in proactively rather than waiting for clients to contact us
- Visit local clients where face-to-face support adds value
- Spot work we repeatedly do and help turn it into practical templates, tools and resources
- Help build our HR community - focused on learning, sharing and growing
- Grow the portfolio by doing excellent work, building trusted relationships, recognising where else we can genuinely help and confidently having those conversations
About you
- Strong industrial and employee relations capability – this is essential
- Sound working knowledge of the Fair Work framework and Modern Awards; the judgement to know when something needs deeper investigation or specialist legal advice
- Broad HR experience and confidence dealing directly with business owners and managers
- Ability to work through an unfamiliar or messy people problem, establish what's important and give clear, practical advice
- Excellent written communication and the ability to explain complex things in plain English
- Strong judgement including knowing when to act, when to ask more questions and when to escalate
- Relationship mindset: you remember what's happening in a client's business and think ahead on their behalf
- Commercial awareness to balance good HR practice, risk, practicality and cost
- Strong organisation and the discipline to keep records, data and our CRM current
- Genuine comfort working autonomously
About us
PurposeHR is the everyday HR consulting arm of Purpose. People Solutions. We work mostly with small and growing organisations that don't have their own HR team. Our clients want to do the right thing by their people and their business, but they don't want HR jargon, unnecessary complexity or a solution that costs more than the problem. Our work spans everyday HR advice, employee relations, industrial relations, Modern Awards, performance and conduct matters, organisational change, policies, contracts and the many people needs that come with running a business. Our approach is knowledgeable, practical and commercial. We're a small team who care deeply about our clients and each other and take real pride in the quality of our work. We believe great work and flexibility can genuinely coexist and that work should have room for life.
