Banana Farm Worker Required: Employed Full time under the Horticultural Award 2020 (MA000028)
Level 1 position with ability to progress based on experience level
Field based position undertaking a range of banana growing activities. This is a physical role which will require the staff member to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Activities include but are not limited to:
Harvesting
De-leafing
De-suckering
Stringing
Fixing Irrigation
Weeding
Essential Criteria:
Physically Fit
Ability to work as part of a team
Available to work 38 hours a week (with additional work hours optional)
Monday
Friday with weekend work available
Ability to work unsupervised
Valuable English – ability to understand easy instructions
Flexibility to work in all weather conditions, such as daytime temperatures of over 35 degrees and long periods of constant rain
Prepared to start as soon as possible.
Desirable Criteria:
Drivers License
Experience in farm/construction labouring work
Experience in driving farm machinery
There is potential to upskill and additional training may be provided. Your Duties will include but are not limited to:
Meeting with farm manager to receive banana blocks to undertake bagging.
Collecting and preparing equipment and supplies for the days use.
Completing any prestart machinery checklists.
Operating farm equipment and machinery to complete tasks.
Bell injecting banana bell before bell flowers emerge.
Pruning bunch to the correct number of hands.
Selecting appropriate coloured bags and sizes for use.
Bagging banana bunch and ensuring secured correctly and covering bunch.
Cleaning, sterilising and maintaining equipment.
Servicing bagging machine and performing minor repairs.
Reporting completed tasks to the farm manager.
Additional duties may be required from time to time as requested.
