Osborne Richardson is assisting a Queensland local government client to appoint an Illegal Dumping Investigator on a fixed-term contract of up to 3 years. This is a hands-on investigative and compliance role for someone who takes pride in protecting the community and setting from illegal waste dumping and littering. You'll combine investigation skills, legislative knowledge and solid customer service to reduce dumping incidents and build safer, cleaner neighbourhoods.

About the Role

Reporting to the Illegal Dumping Taskforce Coordinator, you'll be appointed as an authorised person under the Local Government Act 2009, the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011, and applicable local laws. Your day-to-day will include:
Investigating illegal dumping, dangerous littering and charity bin dumping — both reactive and proactive
Installing and monitoring surveillance cameras at known dumping hotspots
Gathering evidence, interpreting legislation and preparing evidentiary reports
Issuing notices and infringements, with follow-through to final outcome
Presenting evidence in court as required
Educating residents,



businesses and visitors to build voluntary compliance
Contributing to community awareness and education campaigns

About You
Knowledge of (or ability to rapidly acquire) the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 and relevant local laws
Demonstrated investigation and enforcement experience, including lawful entry to premises and evidence-based decision making
Robust communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to translate complex information for the community
Well-developed time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or similar), and/or demonstrated experience investigating breaches of state legislation or local laws, highly regarded

Requirements
Current 'C' class driver's licence
Willingness to undergo required vaccinations (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Q fever) due to identified workplace exposure risk
