As our Kitchen Hand, you will be focused on safely receiving, reheating, portioning and serving meals, carefully managing children's individual dietary and allergy requirements, and keeping our kitchen exceptionally clean and organised. This is not a traditional childcare cook role. Our meals are prepared and delivered to the service, so there is no menu planning or cooking meals from scratch.
Key responsibilities
Receiving and safely storing delivered meals
Reheating and portioning meals ready for children's meal times
Ensuring meals are served at appropriate and safe temperatures
Carefully managing children's individual dietary, allergy and medical requirements
Preventing cross-contamination and following food safety procedures
Maintaining accurate food safety and temperature records as required
Washing dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment
Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen
Maintaining appropriate stock levels and advising when kitchen supplies need replenishing
Working cooperatively with educators to ensure children's meals are prepared and delivered to rooms on time
About you
Full Australian working rights – this role is based in Lilyfield,
Sydney
A current Food Handler/Food Safety certificate
A current NSW Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one before commencing
Excellent organisational and time-management skills – meal periods can be busy and rapid paced
A strong understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling
Excellent attention to detail, particularly when managing allergies and dietary requirements
Robust spoken and written communication skills
A flexible, cooperative personality and positive can-do attitude
The ability to work independently while also being part of a busy early childhood team
Reliability and pride in maintaining a clean and organised workspace
