The Source newspaper in Bend, Oregon seeks a full time daily news reporter to join its dynamic team. This job is ideal for a recent journalism school graduate, or someone with several years' experience in a newsroom. A bachelor's degree and a background in journalism, media or communications is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Robust writing skills with an attention to both grammar and style
n
Ability to write quickly and accurately while managing multiple deadlines
n
Excellent reporting skills, including developing sources and fact checking, in order to write news stories daily
n
Understanding of city, county and state government structures; regularly monitoring local meetings and agendas to plan coverage
n
Ability to quickly form relationships with local decision makers
n
Creative thinker who can write outstanding news stories,



but is also comfortable with cultural topics
n
A competitive spirit and the desire to be "first" to report on local news happenings
n
Willingness to use social media and videos as a tool to deepen reporting and forge relationships with readers
n
Ideal candidate will have experience with WordPress, understand SEO and be curious about how AI can enhance reporting
n
