Payroll Officer | Payroll, Accounts & Reporting
Due to ongoing demand, I'm currently working with a range of organisations across Newcastle and the Hunter looking for experienced Payroll Officers to join their teams.
These opportunities suit Payroll Officers who enjoy owning the payroll process but also like getting involved beyond the pay run itself.
Depending on the role, this could include payroll reporting, reconciliations, accounts support, data analysis and working closely with Finance and HR.
What You'll Be Doing:
Processing end-to-end payroll across weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay cycles
Managing medium to high-volume payroll across multiple employee groups or entities
Interpreting and applying Awards, Enterprise Agreements and payroll legislation
Processing new starters, terminations, leave, allowances, deductions and adjustments
Completing payroll reconciliations and month-end reporting
Preparing payroll reports and analysing payroll data
Using Excel for reconciliations, lookups, data checking and reporting
Assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable or broader finance administration where required
Calculating back pays, overpayments and payroll adjustments
Responding to employee queries and resolving discrepancies
Supporting superannuation, payroll tax and statutory requirements
Working closely with Finance, HR and operational teams
Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, reporting and accuracy
What You'll Bring:
Previous end-to-end payroll experience
Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation
Confidence interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements
Experience working with payroll or large ERP systems
Strong reconciliation and numerical skills
Valuable Excel capability,



including formulas, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and working with larger spreadsheets
Experience preparing payroll reports or analysing payroll data
Exposure to accounts or broader finance responsibilities will be highly regarded
Strong attention to detail and the ability to investigate discrepanciesConfidence managing competing deadlines without compromising accuracy
Experience with systems such as Chris21, SAP, Dayforce, Employment Hero, Aurion, MicrOpay, UKG or similar will be highly regarded.
