Job Description
APS6 Support Needs Assessor – Federal Government Opportunity (Multiple NSW Locations)
We're seeking experienced and empathetic professionals to deliver high-quality, person-centred support needs assessments for people living with disability.
In this role, you will gather and analyse information, interpret evidence, and prepare clear, accurate assessment reports to support informed decision-making.
You'll communicate respectfully with participants, families and support networks, using trauma-informed and culturally-protected approaches to ensure people feel heard, understood and supported.

Pay Rate: $***** per hour + Super

Wollongong
Candidates MUST be able to commit to full-time hours (5 days per week).
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct support needs assessments through guided conversations and information gathering
Analyse and synthesise participant information and external evidence to support evidence-based outcomes
Prepare clear, accurate and defensible written assessment reports
Apply policy, legislation and procedures using sound judgement and ethical practice
Communicate assessment processes and outcomes clearly across virtual and face-to-face settings
Escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately and contribute to continuous service improvement
Collaborate across teams to support coordinated and inclusive participant outcomes
Maintain accurate records using digital systems while ensuring privacy and confidentiality
About You:
You are a compassionate and adaptable skilled with strong assessment, interviewing and stakeholder engagement skills.
You can confidently manage complex information, apply sound judgement,
and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
You will demonstrate:
Experience conducting support needs assessments or similar person-centred assessments
Strong analytical, report writing and decision-making capability
Commitment to inclusive, accessible and culturally-safe practice
Trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to participant engagement
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
High levels of professionalism, integrity and ethical practice
Experience working within disability, health, allied health or community services environments
Essential Requirements:
You must hold a recognised tertiary qualification in allied health or a relevant health discipline, including:
Occupational Therapy
Physiotherapy
Speech Pathology
Social Work
Dietetics
Exercise Physiology
Rehabilitation Counselling
Counselling
Psychotherapy
Nursing (RN or EN)
Education (clinical background)
Behaviour Support
Evidence of qualifications must be included within the submitted CV.
Experience or accreditation in the I-CAN Support Needs Assessment Tool is highly regarded but not essential.
As these roles are within a Federal Government Agency, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
