Job Description
Care Assistant
n
Accountable To: Head Office
n
Responsible: Manager/Nurse in Charge
n
Job Summary
n
The post holder works to provide a supporting service to the person in charge of the shift. Duties are described within the following.
n
Maintaining a protected and homely environment for service users by housekeeping duties in the care areas and prevention of cross-infection.
n
Receiving and giving information.
n
Working with and lending support to the qualified nurse carrying out planned care for individual service users.
n
Responsibilities
n
Personal and Social Care
n
n
Participating in the preparation for the informal reception of the client user at the time of admission
n
Attending to the needs of the carers/relatives of patients/service users and courteous reception of visitors in the Home.
n
Protecting service users who are frail, unsteady when walking, disabled by poor vision or confusion from all types of accidents.
n
Assisting service users in the care of their personal clothing and other
possessions/valuables
in accordance with the Home
policies/procedures.
n
Knowing personal role at first aid level in resuscitation procedure.
n
Receiving and acting upon the instruction of the Nurse-in-Charge that may be spoken and/or written in the service users care plan, or occur during work activities.
n
n
Housekeeping
n
n
Observing and prompting comfortable heating and tolerable noise levels within the Home.
n
Service meals to service users.n
n
assisting with help or feeding
n
assisting with choice when required.
n
record of fluid intake when appropriate or directed.
n
comply with special diets,
report appetite and intake.
n
prepare food and drinks as required.
n
n
Maintain
recommendations/procedures
for food hygiene and food handling.
n
Having detailed understanding of fire hazards, sighting of appliances, routines to be followed in the event of fire and evacuation process.
n
Assisting with tidiness in clinical areas, removal of used items of equipment, correct disposal of waste, soiled linen.
n
Assist Nurse-in-Charge or nominated Deputy in technical activities as required.
n
Preparing the personal space areas for service users before admission/after discharge, cleaning the beds etc., and other items of equipment.
n
Replenishing the service users areas with towels, soap etc., and identifying the need to replenish clinical stocks where holding levels are required.
n
n
CLERICAL/ADMINISTRATION
n
n
Listing service users property on arrival or departure.
n
Noting, reporting and documenting damaged furnishings, condition of equipment, baths, showers or other appliances.
n
Assisting as necessary with written documentation associated with any aspect of service users care - as supervised by Nurse in Charge.
n
Dealing promptly with telephone enquiries and messages, communicating effectively with other members of the team.
n
n
Additional Responsibilities
n
n
Promote effective communication both within and outside the home environment.
n
Participate in flexible duty patterns that promote effective 24 hour care of service user.
n
n
