About the Role
n
We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to keep our machinery running smoothly and reliably.
n
This is a real part-time role ****** hours per week). Above all, we're focused on finding the right person for our team - so when it comes to rostered days, start times, and hourly rate, we are flexible and open to negotiating the right package for the right trade experience.
n
This role suits a trade-qualified fitter looking for better balance, someone scaling back toward retirement, or a tradesperson who wants steady, good-paying work alongside other commitments.
n
Machine breakdowns happen, so we need someone flexible enough to jump on urgent repairs during work days, along with the occasional after-hours callout (paid at overtime rates). In return, you get real input into your hours, control over the preventative maintenance program, and a team that backs you up.

Hours & Roster

Reporting to the Operations Manager, days and start/finish times are flexible, (e.g., 4 longer days or 5 shorter shifts). If you're looking for a slightly different setup, let us know, we're open to alternative arrangements for the right person.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Maintenance & Breakdown Repairs:
Carry out fault-finding, mechanical repairs, and routine servicing across mixing, oven, conveyor, and packaging lines.
n
Preventative Maintenance: Run and improve our preventative maintenance schedule and manage critical spare parts stock to keep downtime low.
n
Food Safety & Hygiene: Follow standard food-grade maintenance practices (food-safe lubricants, hygiene, and contamination controls).
n
Production Support: Work alongside production operators to troubleshoot line issues and fix recurring mechanical problems.
n
Contractors & Records: Keep basic maintenance records and supervise external service technicians when specialized work is required.
n
Workshop Upkeep: Keep the maintenance area organised and safe.
n

Skills & Experience
n
n
Trade Qualification: Fitter & Turner / Mechanical Fitter (or extensive practical maintenance experience in bakery or food manufacturing plants).
n
Equipment Knowledge: Solid background with conveyors, drives, pneumatics, ovens, and packaging machinery.
n
Diagnostic Skills: Methodical approach to mechanical fault-finding.
n
Handy Extras: Basic electrical troubleshooting (PLC experience or a restricted electrical licence is a plus),
welding/fabrication
skills, forklift licence advantageous.
n
Work Ethic: Reliable, self-directed, and straightforward with communication - if plans change or a machine needs attention, you speak up early.
n
Awareness of food safety principles (HACCP) or willingness to learn
n
Ability to work independently and prioritise workload
n
Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
