Trade Assistants Wanted | Multiple 5MW Solar + BESS Projects
We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced
Solar Farm Trade Assistants
to join a growing pipeline of renewable energy projects across the
Riverina region of NSW
.
With multiple
5MW solar and BESS projects
commencing, we are looking to build and add to our existing strong team of skilled personnel for an initial
3-month engagement
, with the potential for ongoing work as our project pipeline continues to grow.
Position Overview
The Trade Assistant supports licensed electricians and the wider electrical team in the installation, testing of DC and AC electricals systems across the solar farm and BESS facility. The TA assist with electrical works while maintaining strict compliance with safety, quality and environmental requirements. This is a non-licenced role; all electrical work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed electrician.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Assist licensed electricians with the installation of DC string cabling, combiner boxes, inverters and AC reticulation.
Pull, run, dress and label cables; install cable trays, conduit, ducting, and cable management systems.
Installing string cabling and earthing systems.
Support to trenching activities, such as laying sand, cables, hard cover, conduits.
Prepare, stage and transport materials, tools, and equipment for electrical crews.
Mechanical installation works, including but not limited to Combiner boxes, Sunshades.
Conduct pre-start checks on tools, plant and equipment and report defects.
Assist with cable hauling using correct manual handling techniques and mechanical aids.
Maintain a clean, tidy and organised work area and lay-down yard.
Complete relevant documentation, timesheets and quality records as directed.
Qualifications, Licenses & Tickets
Construction Induction Card (White Card).
Low Voltage Rescue (LVR) & CPR certificate & First Aid certificate.
Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) or electrical pre-apprenticeship.
Verification of Competency (VOC) for relevant plant (e.g., EWP, telehandler).
Skills and Experience
Previous experience as a trade assistant or labourer, ideally on solar, construction or civil projects.
Basic understanding of electrical concepts, terminology, and safe work practices.
Sound hand and power tool skills and safe manual handling ability.
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Strong safety focus with a willingness to learn and follow instructions.
Reliable, punctual and an effective team player with good communication skills.
Work Health & Safety
Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your work.
Comply with all site safety rules, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), permits and management plans.
Complete pre-start checks, prestart meetings, and Take-5 / JHA hazard assessments before commencing work.
Correctly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and report defective equipment.
Report all hazards, incidents, injuries and near misses immediately in accordance with site procedures.
Stop work and raise concerns where an activity is deemed unsafe.
Comply with environmental controls and site management plans at all times.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors on an active construction / operational solar farm in varying weather conditions.
Exposure to sun, heat, rain, dust, noise and uneven terrain across a large site.
Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and manual handling for extended periods.
May involve work at heights, in confined spaces, and near live electrical equipment (role dependent).
Compliance with fitness-for-work, fatigue management, and drug & alcohol policies is required.
Some roles may require shift work, extended hours, or drive-in/drive-out arrangements.
Able to work autonomously
