Job details
Systems Analysts translate business requirements into technical requirements that align with relevant architectures.
Systems Analyst Professionals design, create, evaluate and document ICT solutions in new and existing ICT systems.
They may propose modifications to the existing systems and processes, or design new systems to meet user needs as expressed in requirements documentations or user stories.
Systems Analysts are responsible for designing and analysing ICT systems and products.
They gather requirements for process improvements and current features by engaging business users and development and testing teams.
They are responsible for writing functional specifications from the business requirements.
Systems Analysts:

work under the general direction of senior staff to deliver results
make ethical, evidence based decisions
build rapport and maintain stakeholder relationships.
Key duties and responsibilities
Duties may include some or all of the following:
perform analysis and evaluation of business processes and requirements
support the creation and implementation of solutions to meet business needs
support the creation and maintenance of solution documents
provide support to daily operations and monitor performance of business solutions
adhere to delivery and support methodologies and contribute ideas for improvement
perform technical application assessments considering risks and benefits
conduct testing activities such as test coverage reviews,
formal or informal test execution and test planning
collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues, solve problems and ensure effective and timely implementation of projects
undertake project quality management tasks such as peer and quality reviews of specifications and design documents
prepare correspondence such as reports and technical documentation for review by senior staff
escalate issues as required and suggest alternative approaches and solutions
assist with cost analysis activities as required
support the life cycle of changes and improvements to systems
provide training, guidance and support for new staff where required
act with integrity by promoting workplace practices aligned with the APS Values and the APS Code of Conduct
exercise delegations in line with legislation and guidelines as required.
Knowledge
Well-developed knowledge and understanding of:
the agency's strategic outlook and direction
relevant frameworks, legislation, policies and procedures
payments, programs and services administered by the agency relevant to work area
the agency's privacy, workplace health and safety and security protocols
current practices and issues in professional area of expertise or technical discipline
government and agency digital and technology strategy and standards
business systems and tools.
Requirements
1. Requirements definition and management: Level 3 (SFIA)
Defines and manages scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for small-scale changes and assists with more complex change initiatives.
Follows agreed standards and applies appropriate techniques to elicit and document detailed requirements.
Provides constructive challenge to stakeholders as required.
Reviews requirements for errors and omissions.
Prioritises requirements and documents traceability to source.
Provides input to the requirements base-line.
Investigates, manages and applies authorised requests for changes to base-lined requirements, in line with change management policy.
Undertakes complete design of moderately complex software applications or components.
Applies agreed standards, guidelines, patterns and tools.
Assists as part of a team in the design of components of larger software systems.
Specifies user and/or system interfaces.
Creates multiple design views to address the different stakeholders' concerns and to handle functional and non-functional requirements.
Assists in the evaluation of options and trade-offs.
Collaborates in reviews of work with others as appropriate.
1. Feasibility assessment: Level 3 (SFIA)
Supports option identification and feasibility assessment.
Selects and employs standard techniques to get the information required for feasibility assessment.
Supports identification of tangible costs and benefits, and development of business cases.
Assists in preparing and operating the environment, facilities and tools needed to evaluate systems, products, services or devices.
Assists in the collection of feedback on prototypes and designs from users and others.
