About the role
n
GEO Healthcare operates in 13 Victorian Men's Public Prisons providing primary healthcare services to the prisoner population. Travel across Victoria will be required for this role.
n
n
Provide outpatient care for patients with eye-related disorders and conditions
n
Conduct routine eye examinations, including visual field tests
n
Determine each patient's visual acuity, field of vision and hand-eye coordination
n
Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications
n
Evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness and inflammation
n

Optometrist Job Description
n
n
Skills and Experience:
n
The ideal candidate will have:
n
Essential:
n
n
Explain optometry procedures to patients and answer related questions.
n
Prepare patients for eye examination procedures.
n
Monitor and care for patients during the procedure, to ensure their safety and comfort.
n
Examine eye and related images, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas.
n
There will be a requirement to follow up clients to order and fit prescription lenses and frames as needed
n
Determine if the scope of the examination should be extended, based on preliminary findings.
n
Document all occasions of service and maintain the patient's history and medical records.
n
Maintain and clean the optometry equipment.
n
Coordinate the implementation of optometry services at the assigned GEO Healthcare locations.
n
Appropriate qualification in Optometry and AHPRA registration.
n
Demonstrated experience working as an Optometrist.
n
Ability to work to full scope of clinical practice.
n
n
Other Requirements of the role:
n
n
Valid Australian driver's licence.
n
Ability to work within a prison setting, which will involve direct contact with people in prison associated with the delivery of healthcare.
n
Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
n
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
n
Working outside of ordinary business hours may be required.
n
