Job Description
SERVICE DELIVERY MODEL (ESSENTIAL TO ROLE)
n
NAAFLS operates a bicultural, integrated service delivery model, where Solicitors work in partnership with Aboriginal Case Workers to provide holistic, culturally safe and client-centred services.
n
This model recognises that:

Legal expertise and cultural knowledge are equally critical to effective service delivery
n
Client outcomes are strengthened through collaborative, team-based practice
n
Services must be trauma-informed, culturally secure and responsive to community context
n
The Solicitor is responsible for delivering high-quality legal services within this partnership model, and for working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal colleagues and communities. Teams consist of a Solicitor and Case Worker who provide a wraparound holistic service to our clients to ensure they are fully supported through their journey.

Key Responsibilities
n
Provide culturally safe and trauma-informed legal advice and representation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
n
Keep accurate client files and enter data promptly using NAAFLS systems.
n
Help deliver community legal education on family violence and related topics.
n
Support improvements to ensure consistent,
high-quality service delivery.
n
Prepare explicit reports, submissions and presentations for community forums.
n
Travel to remote communities as part of outreach and client support.
n
Selection Criteria
n
Hold or be eligible for a restricted or unrestricted practising certificate in the NT.
n
Experience in a relevant legal role in family law, domestic violence and/or child protection.
n
Experience providing culturally sensitive legal services to Indigenous clients, especially victims of family violence in remote communities.
n
Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and confidentiality skills.
n
Sound knowledge of Family Law, domestic violence, child protection and related areas.
n
Strong attention to detail; confident using electronic records and data systems.
n
Collaborative team player in a cross-cultural workplace.
n
Willing to travel overnight to remote communities (up to two trips of 2–5 days per month).
n
Able to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and clear Criminal History Check.
n
You will also need a current 'C' Class Driver's Licence
