Complex Behaviour Support Worker – Caloundra & Landsborough
We are seeking
experienced and resilient Complex Behaviour Support Workers
to support participants with
high and complex support needs
, including psychosocial disability, intellectual disability and significant mental health conditions.
The successful candidates will have experience supporting individuals who may present with
complex behaviours of concern, self harm, property damage, aggression, emotional dysregulation and behaviours that may place themselves or others at risk.
This role requires support workers who are calm under pressure, confident managing complex situations, emotionally resilient and able to follow behaviour support strategies consistently.
You will be supporting participants who may have
complex mental health presentations
, including
schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder and other psychosocial disabilities
, as well as participants with a history of trauma and significant behavioural support needs.
Experience supporting people with
severe self injurious behaviours, property damage, leaving placement or other high-risk behaviours
will be highly regarded.
While this can be a demanding role, it is also
highly rewarding
. You will play an important role in providing consistent, person-centred support while helping participants build independence, develop daily living skills and engage meaningfully in their community.
Comprehensive training, specialised support and ongoing guidance will be provided.
Responsibilities
Provide person-centred support to participants with
intellectual disability,
psychosocial disability and complex mental health needs
.
Support participants who may experience schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder, trauma-related challenges and significant emotional dysregulation.
Safely support and respond to complex behaviours of concern, including self harm, property damage, verbal or physical aggression and other high‐risk behaviours.
Recognise
early warning signs, triggers and changes in presentation
and respond appropriately.
Follow and implement
Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
and individual support plans consistently.
Implement
Positive Behaviour Support strategies
and proactive approaches to reduce behaviours of concern.
Maintain a calm, professional and supportive approach during periods of escalation or distress.
Follow organisational procedures regarding
risk management, incident reporting and restrictive practices
, where applicable.
Promote participant choice, dignity, independence and community participation.
Maintain accurate and timely
progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation
.
Work collaboratively with the participant's support team, including behaviour practitioners, mental health professionals and other relevant stakeholders.
Shift Availability
6:00am – 2:00pm
2:00pm – 10:00pm
2:00pm – 6:00am Sleepover – $140 sleepover allowance
10:00pm – 6:00am Active/Awake
Essential Experience & Requirements
Previous experience supporting participants with complex behaviours and high support needs is essential.
Demonstrated experience supporting people with
complex mental health and/or psychosocial disability
.
Experience supporting individuals with
self harm, behaviours of concern, aggression and/or property damage
.
Experience responding to
behavioural escalation and implementing de‐escalation strategies
.
Experience following and implementing
Behaviour Support Plans
.
Ability to remain
calm, patient and professional in high‐pressure situations
.
Strong understanding of
person‐centred and trauma‐informed support
.
Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the broader support team.
Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health or equivalent is desirable.
