Individually great, together unstoppable The Role and the Team As the sole in-market people professional, you'll sit on the Australian leadership team and own the full people function for the business, connecting a growing local team to BLC's global organisation while building the practices and culture that will sustain that growth.
Reporting to the Chief People Officer in the UK, with a dotted line to the General Manager in Australia, you'll operate as a trusted partner, shaping decisions rather than responding to them.
This is a role with genuine scope: you'll set the people agenda, adapt BLC's global frameworks for the Australian context, and ensure the business scales with the right talent, culture, and compliance in place.
Based in Sydney with a minimum of three days per week in the office, you'll bring the realities of the Australian market into global thinking while being a visible, connected presence for colleagues on the ground.
What You'll Do Own the Australian people plan, partnering with the local leadership team to ensure it directly supports BLC Australia's growth objectives and operating context Lead all employee relations matters end-to-end, handling cases fairly and promptly in line with Australian employment law, including the Fair Work Act and relevant state obligations Partner with the leadership team and Talent Acquisition to plan and sequence hiring as the business scales, overseeing onboarding for all new hires in Australia Assess and adapt BLC's global people frameworks for Australian legislative and workforce requirements,
identifying gaps and proposing solutions without waiting for direction Drive performance culture across the Australian business, supporting consistent goal setting, feedback and development conversations Lead engagement activity in Australia, using data and people metrics to surface trends and inform the people plan Play a central role in BLC Australia's transition to an AI-enabled organisation, partnering with leadership to build the mindset and behaviours needed as adoption grows Represent the Australian business within the wider People team, ensuring local priorities and context are factored into group-level decisions What You'll Bring Significant experience as a senior HR business partner, partnering at a senior level Deep working knowledge of Australian employment law, including the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards and relevant state-based obligations A background in scaling or high-growth businesses, where people practices have needed to be built as well as maintained Breadth across the full HR generalist remit, including ER, talent, performance, reward, engagement and organisational design Strong analytical capability, with confidence using people data and metrics to shape decisions and demonstrate impact Experience working with a UK-headquartered or globally distributed organisation,
adapting group-level frameworks for local markets, would be a bonus but is not essential Our culture At Blue Light Card, our members are at the heart of everything we do, and it's our incredible team that makes it all possible.
