We are seeking a Principal Civil Designer / Design Lead to support the delivery of major civil infrastructure projects across Queensland, including urban development, building-related infrastructure, and projects supporting the Brisbane **** Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This leadership role is suited to a high-performing design professional who can lead design delivery, provide technical direction, mentor team members, and influence how infrastructure projects are delivered.
As a senior member of the Design team, you will bring advanced civil design capability, strong project coordination skills, and the abillity to interface with clients, contractors, project managers, and internal leaders.
You will play an important role in shaping design approaches, improving technical standards, and developing the next generation of CAD professionals.
Key Responsibilities Lead the civil design of complex urban infrastructure, building-related infrastructure, subdivisions, public realm, and major event-related projects Provide high-level technical support and direction across civil design deliverables Direct the preparation of preliminary and detailed designs in line with project scopes, budgets, programs, statutory requirements, and relevant Australian Standards Produce and review civil designs, reports, specifications, drawings, and construction documentation Ensure design drawings and documentation are accurate, coordinated, and compliant with project requirements and company procedures Assist with quantity take-offs, cost estimates, design schedules, and resource planning Coordinate design activities with Project Managers, Technical Leads, engineers, contractors, clients, and other disciplines Monitor design progress, technical issues, project risks, costs, and delivery timeframes Mentor, supervise,



and support less experienced designers and CAD professionals Promote technical excellence through coaching, training, knowledge sharing, and consistent application of design standards Contribute to recruitment, performance development, career planning, business planning, workshops, and professional development activities Maintain strong client relationships and support business development activities when required Ensure all work is completed in accordance with quality, safety, environmental, risk management, and project procedures Exercise initiative and sound judgement when resolving design and delivery challenges Requirements: Relevant qualifications in Drafting or Engineering, and significant equivalent industry experience From 10 years' experience in civil design within a professional services, consultancy, contractor, or infrastructure delivery environment Experience delivering major civil infrastructure projects Experience working with public and private sector clients Strong knowledge of civil design principles, construction documentation, design coordination, and relevant Australian Standards Experience leading or coordinating design teams and supporting project delivery Strong client management, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills The ability to develop practical, fit-for-purpose solutions to complex design challenges Strong written and verbal communication skills Extensive experience in the operation of software design tools such as AutoCAD packages, Civil 3D or 12D.
