We're seeking an experienced Principal Java/Bespoke Software Engineer to join a high-performing technology team supporting a mission-critical operational platform.

Our client is a large Federal Government agency delivering critical services to Australians. The organisation operates complex enterprise systems and invests heavily in contemporary technology platforms to support nationally significant operations.

Key Responsibilities

n

As a Principal Engineer, you'll play a key role in the ongoing support, maintenance and enhancement of a complex enterprise application workplace. Working alongside highly skilled developers and subject matter experts, you will contribute to the design, development and operation of business-critical solutions across Java, AWS and Oracle technologies.

Developing and maintaining enterprise-grade Java applications and integrations
n
Designing and implementing scalable cloud-based solutions using AWS
n
Supporting Oracle database development, integration and optimisation
n
Contributing to DevOps, CI/CD and release management activities
n
Producing technical documentation and providing expert technical advice
n
Participating in a shared on-call support roster for critical applications
n

About You

n

You are a senior software engineering qualified with extensive experience delivering complex enterprise solutions in large-scale environments. You enjoy solving challenging technical problems and are comfortable operating as both a hands-on developer and trusted technical adviser.

You will bring:

n

n
Min 8 years Java experience, enterprise design patterns, JPA, Hibernate ORM, JEE an advantage, reactive programming an advantage.
n
Java Web service development, SOAP and REST APIs, OpenAPI/XSD Schemas, XML/JSON, Spring/SpringBoot.
n
Experience with AWS services such such as EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, S3 and SQS
n
Strong Oracle database and PL/SQL capability
n
Experience with REST and SOAP integrations, OpenAPI and enterprise messaging
n
Working knowledge of Jenkins, Git, Maven and DevOps practices
n
Willingness to be 24x7 on-call (rare, approx. once per year).
n
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
n
MUST HAVE Australian Citizenship and Baseline Security Clearance
n
