The Chance
We are seeking an outgoing, compassionate, and highly engaging
Male or Female Disability Support Worker (Sub Contractor)
to partner with a creative 30-year-old woman in Bracken Ridge as she takes exciting new steps toward independent living.
This position begins at
5 hours, one day a week
, with hours set to increase organically as you build rapport, trust, and comfort with the participant.
About the Participant
The participant is a creative woman in her 30s living at home with her supportive family. She is passionate about fashion design and has a deep love for animals (she proudly cares for her pet chickens and a duck!). Currently, her primary support comes from her brother, but she is ready to expand her personal and social horizons.
Her big-picture goals include building self-confidence, forming genuine friendships, and transitioning into independent living. She also dreams of studying fashion part-time and will need support navigating enrolment and attending classes.
Key Responsibilities
Community & Social Access:
Accompany the participant to social outings to help her build meaningful community connections and peer friendships.
Educational Support:
Assist with part-time TAFE/course enrolment and attend fashion design classes alongside her to support her learning.
Skill Development:
Work closely on practical independent living skills to help her prepare for her eventual move out of home.
Active Engagement:
Bring high energy and a vibrant personality to actively draw her out of her shell.
Skill & Experience
What We Are Looking For
Tertiary Background:
You have experience navigating or supporting individuals within a tertiary education environment (TAFE, university, or registered training organisations) to help her successfully manage her studies.
Compassionate yet Resilient:
You possess a strong backbone, excellent professional boundaries, and the ability to advocate effectively for your participant's autonomy and independence.
Emotionally Intelligent:
You are highly sensitive to complex family dynamics and can navigate home environments with respect and discretion.
Outgoing & Proactive:
You excel at confidence-building and know how to make social skill-building fun and rewarding.
Shared Interests (Bonus):
An interest in fashion, design, or animals is highly desirable!
Requirements
Prior Tertiary Experience (Required)
Active Australian Business Number (ABN)
Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check (Blue Card / Yellow Card equivalent)
Current First Aid & CPR Certificates
Valid Driver's Licence and a reliable, insured vehicle
Legal right to work in Australia
