The Next Step Recruitment Company – Brisbane QLD
This is a fast-growing Australian business operating across a practical, trade-based environment. With continued growth and investment underway, the business is entering an important period of expansion and needs an experienced HR generalist who can come in, quickly understand the operation and provide hands‐on people support where it is needed most.
This is not a highly corporate environment. The workforce includes a significant number of trades and operational employees, so success will come from being visible, approachable and comfortable meeting people where they are, while bringing the structure and HR capability needed to support a growing business.
About the Role
Growth has created a significant hiring requirement across the business, particularly within trades and operational roles. You will take ownership of recruitment from end to end, working closely with managers to understand what they need, getting into market and keeping recruitment moving at pace. Alongside recruitment, you will be the go-to person for day-to-day HR matters across the employee lifecycle. This could include onboarding, contracts and documentation, employee relations, performance matters, policy and process, manager advice and general people support.
It is a broad role where you will need to be equally comfortable talking with a tradesperson on site, working through a people issue with a manager and then getting back to your desk to progress a pipeline of vacancies.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing recruitment across trades, operational and corporate roles
Proactively sourcing candidates and building talent pipelines in challenging markets
Partnering with hiring managers to define requirements and drive recruitment processes
Managing offers, contracts, onboarding and associated employee documentation
Providing practical advice to managers on day-to-day HR and employee relations matters
Supporting performance management and other employee lifecycle activities
Reviewing and improving HR processes as the business continues to grow
Providing responsive,
pragmatic HR support across the organisation

About You
You will be a capable HR generalist who enjoys being close to the business and is happy to roll up your sleeves.
Importantly, you will have strong recruitment capability. You know how to find people rather than simply advertise and wait, and you are comfortable managing multiple vacancies and competing priorities at once.
Experience within trades, engineering, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, industrial services or another operational environment would be particularly valuable. Just as importantly, you will understand how to adapt your style to your audience.
You don't need layers of process around you to operate effectively. You are comfortable working autonomously, using judgement and creating structure where it is needed.
You will ideally bring:
Broad HR generalist experience across the employee lifecycle
Strong end-to-end recruitment and proactive sourcing capability
Experience recruiting trades and/or operational workforces
Confidence working in a standalone or highly autonomous HR role
Sound employee relations knowledge and practical judgement
A down-to-earth, adaptable communication style
The ability to work at pace in a growing and changing environment
