Payroll Specialist for a rapidly growing organisation in Greater Western Sydney

This organisation has seen rapid growth over the last few years; you will be stepping into a business that is scaling quickly, evolving its processes, and building out its payroll function as it continues to grow nationally. Their payroll system has recently been implemented and offers a great prospect for optimisation and improvement.
Your new role
In this standalone Payroll Specialist position, you will lead the payroll function and ensure accurate, compliant, and timely processing across multiple entities. Key responsibilities include:
Processing end-to-end weekly payroll for a medium-volume workforce
Ensuring award interpretation and payments are correctly applied
Interpreting EA/moderns awards and applying legislative requirements across entities
Managing PAYG, superannuation, STP, payroll tax and all other statutory obligations
Preparing and posting payroll journals
Reconciling payroll accounts monthly, quarterly, and annually (leave, super, entitlements, etc.)
Maintaining accurate employee files, leave balances, deductions, terminations and payroll records
Responding to employee enquiries with professionalism, clarity, and confidentiality
Supporting audits and preparing documentation for internal and external review
Assisting with system improvements, documentation, and process development
Participating in payroll, HR, and finance projects including enhancements, upgrades, and compliance work
Acting as a trusted advisor on payroll matters and identifying risks or issues early
What you'll need to succeed
This role suits someone with a start-up mindset who thrives in fast-paced, rapidly evolving environments. You will need:
Strong end-to-end payroll experience
Ability to lead the payroll function with confidence
Problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and propose solutions
Excellent attention to detail, including identifying timesheet anomalies (e.g., missed clock-outs, incorrect hours)
High level of system capability and ability to learn new technologies
Initiative and adaptability to fast-changing business needs
Strong understanding of Australian workplace legislation, awards, and payroll compliance
Strong Excel skills
Experience preparing payroll journals, reconciliations, and statutory reporting
High degree of integrity and confidentiality
