Job Description
Do you have a passion for animal care, conservation, andcreating outstanding visitor experiences?
Council isseeking a dedicated and experienced ZooCurator to join our Botanic Gardens Team and play a key role inthe day-to-day operation, coordination, development and maintenance ofCouncil's Zoo.
Workingcollaborativelywith a Zoo Keepers and the Botanic Gardens Team Leader, youwill help lead the daily operations of the Zoo, ensuring high standards ofanimal welfare, visitor experience, workplace safety andlegislativecompliance.You will also contribute to habitat and facility maintenance,conservationinitiatives,and the ongoing presentation and enhancement of the Zoo andbroader Botanic Gardens precinct.
Full-time permanent position, based on 38 hours per week.
Remuneration package of $2,****** gross per fortnight with theopportunity to progress to $3,****** gross per fortnight + superannuation (12%).
Ongoing training and development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Asa Zoo Curator, you will undertake a diverse range ofresponsibilities,including:
Providingday-to-day operational leadership of Council's Zoo, workingcollaborativelywithZoo Keepers and the Botanic Gardens Team Leader to coordinate staff,volunteers, animal care activities, maintenance programs, visitor services andlegislative compliance requirements.
Providingleadership,supervision and direction to Zoo staff, casualemployees,volunteersand other personnel working within the Zoo, fostering a positiveteam culture, ensuring safe work practices, supporting staff development andmaintaining high standards of animal welfare, customer service andoperationalperformance.
Providing dailycare for zoo animals, including feeding, watering, healthmonitoring,enrichmentactivities,



and maintaining animal welfare standards.
Cleaning andmaintaining animal enclosures, yards, exhibits, pathways, andassociatedinfrastructure.
Assisting withenclosure construction, maintenance works, and exhibit development.
Conducting guidedtours and engaging positively with visitors to enhance their zoo experience.
Maintainingrecords and registers, including animal, chemical, and treatment records.
Supporting theestablishment and maintenance of gardens, lawns, and landscaped areasthroughout the Botanic Gardens precinct.
Undertakinghorticulturalactivities including planting, pruning, irrigation, mowing, weedand pest control, rehabilitation works, and facility maintenance.
Safely operatingand maintaining plant, equipment, power tools, and personalprotectiveequipment.
Adhering toseasonal roster arrangements and contributing to a safe, collaborative, andcustomer-focused team environment.
Essential Requirements of the Position:
As the successful applicant, you will bring astrong mix of qualifications, skills and skilled experience, including:
Qualifications relevant to the role e.g.Certificate III in Captive Animals.
Current Class C Driver's Licence.
General Construction Induction Certificate (WhiteCard).
AQF III Chemical Application Certificate.
Substantial experiencerelevant to the role in zoo, animal husbandry, environmental,



parks orsimilar operational environments, including responsibility for animalcare, site maintenance and operational activities.
Demonstratedabilityto lead a team and work effectively in a team and independently.
In accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation, thesuccessfulapplicantis required to be vaccinated for Q-Fever and will be asked to provideevidence of this.
