The Role
As a Data Architect at HSO, you will play a key role in enabling the design and delivery of modern data platforms that support advanced analytics, AI, and intelligent insights.
You'll work closely with customers and internal teams to architect, lead, and deliver end-to-end data solutions using Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Databricks.
This is a hands‐on, customer‐facing role requiring strong technical leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate complex architectures into practical, maintainable solutions.
What You'll Do
Architecture & Delivery
Design, lead, and deliver modern, well‐architected cloud data platforms based on Microsoft Azure foundations
Scope and develop frameworks, reference architectures, tooling, costing models, and governance standards
Act as technical lead on Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks implementations
Lead data platform initiatives end‐to‐end, including design, migration, data modelling, testing, deployment, and ongoing support
Apply data architecture patterns and best practices across projects
Consider non‐functional requirements including performance, security, governance, operational needs, and cost optimisation
Customer Engagement
Work directly with enterprise customers to design and implement modern data architectures
Support customers with cloud data infrastructure, security, licensing, governance, modelling, and migration
Qualify new customers and help existing customers identify new opportunities and enhancements
Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non‐technical stakeholders
Accurately scope projects and provide sound technical recommendations
Technical Leadership & Capability
Lead and mentor technical team members to support delivery and professional growth
Ensure delivery teams have the tools, capability, and guidance needed to succeed
Proactively identify risks, issues, and mitigation strategies throughout project delivery
Provide high‐quality documentation with all deliverables
Deliver customer workshops to upskill teams and support technology adoption
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Develop and improve data solution lifecycles using DevOps / DataOps best practices
Review and automate business processes where appropriate
Actively explore emerging technologies, AI use cases, and innovative solutions
Contribute to best practice, continuous improvement, and collective knowledge across HSO
Lead by example, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and high‐performance culture
What You'll Bring
Essential Experience
5+ years' experience designing and building data solutions in production environments
Proven experience implementing Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Databricks for customers
Strong understanding of modern cloud data architectures and Azure services
Experience with data governance frameworks and data modelling
Exposure to AI and machine learning workloads and the data architectures that support them
Hands‐on experience with DevOps/DataOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and source control
Leadership & Consulting Skills
Experience leading projects and technical teams end‐to‐end
Strong customer‐facing skills with the confidence to workshop solutions directly with clients
Ability to translate complex technical architectures into clear, business‐focused explanations
Strong problem‐solving and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
High emotional intelligence and experience working with diverse client stakeholders
Additional Capabilities
Strong understanding of security, privacy, and ethical data obligations
Ability to proactively identify and mitigate architectural and security risks
Curiosity and motivation to continuously learn and share knowledge
