Position Summary
Thompson Brain and Mind Healthcare is seeking to appoint a Senior Management Accountant to establish and operate the management accounting function across TBMH and its associated entities.
TBMH does not yet have dedicated internal management accounting capability and therefore the successful candidate will be required to help structure and standardise the finance function, and then produce reliable monthly, quarterly and annual management reporting for the business.
The role will suit a commercially minded accountant who is comfortable operating in a fast growing, commercially nimble, healthcare organisation.
The position requires both technical accounting discipline and practical business partnering capability.
Key to the success of this position is mapping the operating units of the business from a financial perspective, to enable divisional planning and reporting.
Success will involve liaising with colleagues across the business to understand and forecast plans across the business.
Key Objectives of the Role
The Management Accountant will be responsible for:
Establishing the management accounting framework for TBMH and associated entities.Improving the structure, accuracy and usability of financial information.Producing timely management reports that support operational and strategic decision‐making.Supporting budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and performance analysis.Providing financial insight to management regarding revenue, costs, margin, utilisation, service line performance and entity-level performance.Working with the bookkeeper/payroll function to ensure transactional finance processes support accurate management reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Finance Function Build and Structuring
The initial phase of the role will involve helping TBMH build a fit-for-purpose finance structure.
Responsibilities will include:
Reviewing the current trial balance, chart of accounts, entity structure, cost centres and reporting categoriesRecommending and implementing improvements to ensure the finance system supports management reportingEstablishing consistent financial reporting processes across TBMH and associated entitiesDeveloping reporting templates, management packs,



dashboards and KPI reportingImproving the quality, consistency and timeliness of financial dataWorking with the existing payroll/bookkeeping function to ensure transactional inputs are complete, accurate and coded appropriatelyIdentifying gaps in current finance processes and recommending practical improvementsSupporting the development of internal controls appropriate for a growing healthcare organisation.
2. Management Reporting
The Management Accountant will be responsible for producing appropriate financial reports that give management a clear view of business performance.
This will include:
Review and analyse the monthly trial balance as part of the month‐end close processPreparing monthly, quarterly and annual profit and loss reports, balance sheet summaries and cash flow reporting as requiredPreparing budget versus actual reporting and variance analysisReporting by entity, location, service line and cost centre where applicableAnalysing revenue, direct costs, contribution margin and overheadsPreparing commentary on key financial movements, risks and performance driversTracking financial KPIs relevant to healthcare operations, including revenue per service line, practitioner utilisation, labour costs, treatment volumes and contribution by service linePreparing monthly management packs for the executive team as requiredSupporting management meetings with clear financial analysis and explanation
3. Budgeting and Forecasting
The role will support the development and maintenance of TBMH's budget and forecasting processes.
Responsibilities will include:
Assisting with preparation of annual budgetsDeveloping rolling forecasts where requiredModelling revenue, cost, workforce and utilisation assumptionsPreparing scenario analysis for new services, clinics, contracts or commercial initiativesMonitoring actual performance against forecast and identifying required corrective actionsSupporting cash flow forecasting and working capital planningAssisting management to understand the financial impact of operational decisions
4. Business Partnering and Commercial Analysis
The Management Accountant will act as a finance business partner to management and operational leaders.
Responsibilities will include:
Providing financial insight to support decision‐making across clinical, operational and commercial areasAnalysing service line profitability and contributionSupporting assessment of pricing, capacity, clinician utilisation and marginAssisting with financial modelling for new initiatives, including new services, premises, partnerships and commercial projectsSupporting the evaluation of investment cases, acquisitions or expansion opportunities where requiredHelping management understand financial trade‐offs and operational consequencesTranslating financial information into clear,



practical recommendations
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate should have:
Prior experience in a management accounting, commercial accounting or finance business partnering roleStrong understanding of management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysisAbility to design and improve financial reporting processesStrong Excel and financial modelling skillsExperience working with accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, NetSuite or similarAbility to work with imperfect or incomplete financial data and improve it over timeStrong analytical capability and attention to detailAbility to communicate financial information clearly to non‐finance stakeholders at all levels of the businessPractical understanding of balance sheet, cash flow, profit and loss and working capital managementCapacity to operate independently in a new role without a large finance team around themHigh integrity and discretion when dealing with confidential financial and payroll information
The following experience would be advantageous:
Experience in healthcare, medical services, allied health, specialist clinics, mental health, disability, insurance‐funded care or similar service‐based environmentsExperience with multi‐entity financial reportingExperience reporting by site, service line, clinician, project or cost centreExperience supporting a growing private company, founder‐led business or scaling healthcare organisationFamiliarity with payroll, contractor payments, Medicare, private billing, insurer‐funded services or healthcare revenue cyclesCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent qualification, or progress toward one of these qualifications
