This position provides technical leadership across complex projects, working in close partnership with researchers and stakeholders to co-design scalable, sustainable, and high-impact research software and infrastructure.
The role involves overseeing development practices, guiding architecture decisions, and ensuring the delivery of robust and reproducible research systems.The Senior RSE contributes to strategic planning, supports capacity building in research software engineering, and mentors other technical staff.
The role operates across multiple concurrent projects, balancing hands-on development with coordination, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement.The PersonThe successful candidate will have:Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to complex technical projects, including architecture and system designExperience working with research data, digital infrastructure, or computational research environmentsStrong understanding of reproducible research practices, version control,



and sustainable software developmentProven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and engage with non-technical stakeholdersExperience mentoring or guiding other developers or technical staffExcellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skillsThe ideal candidate is technically strong, team-oriented, and motivated to drive research impact through well-engineered digital solutions.The School/DepartmentThe HASS Digital Research Hub (HDRH) supports digital research across the College of Arts and Social Sciences by providing expertise in research software, data, and digital methods.
