About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Middleware & Application Administrator to join our Platform Operations team in Sydney.
In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, optimisation and continuous improvement of the middleware platforms supporting HPS's mission‐critical payment applications.
You will ensure the availability, security and performance of our enterprise environments while supporting business‐critical services operating 24/7.
Working alongside Infrastructure, Development, Security and Project teams across multiple international locations, you will act as the technical reference for middleware technologies, contribute to platform modernization initiatives and play a key role in maintaining world‐class payment services.
Key Responsibilities
Middleware Administration
Install, configure and administer enterprise middleware platforms including JBoss/WildFly, IBM WebSphere, Apache Tomcat and Apache HTTP ServerDeploy and maintain Java enterprise applications across Development, Test, UAT and Production environmentsPerform platform upgrades,



migrations and lifecycle managementMaintain middleware configurations and technical documentationExecute preventive maintenance and platform health checks
Production Support
Provide Level 3 support for business‐critical production environmentsTroubleshoot and resolve complex middleware and application incidentsPerform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actionsParticipate in Incident, Problem and Change Management processesSupport production releases and maintenance activitiesParticipate in an on‐call support rotationEnsure platform availability in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Performance & Platform Optimization
Monitor platform performance using enterprise monitoring solutionsAnalyse JVM performance, memory utilisation and application response timesOptimise middleware configurations to maximise stability and performanceConduct capacity planning and proactively identify operational risksRecommend infrastructure improvements to support business growth
Security & Compliance
Apply middleware patches, upgrades and security fixesImplement secure configuration standards and platform hardeningMonitor security advisories and vulnerability assessmentsCollaborate with Security Operations teams to remediate identified risksSupport internal and external compliance auditsDevelop automation scripts to improve operational efficiencyContribute to CI/CD initiatives and deployment automationImprove monitoring, alerting and operational reportingIdentify opportunities to simplify operational processes and increase platform reliability
Technical Leadership
Act as the subject matter expert for enterprise middleware technologiesProvide technical guidance to Infrastructure, Development and Project teamsReview solution architectures and infrastructure designsMentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharingContribute to technical standards, best practices and strategic platform decisions
About You




You are an experienced Middleware Administrator who enjoys working within complex enterprise environments supporting highly available platforms.
You combine strong technical expertise with excellent troubleshooting skills and are passionate about delivering secure, stable and high‐performing technology solutions.
You are proactive, collaborative and comfortable working in an international environment supporting mission‐critical payment systems.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related disciplineEquivalent professional experience will also be considered
Experience
Minimum 5 years' experience administering enterprise middleware platformsStrong experience supporting production environmentsExperience with Java application serversExperience supporting high‐availability enterprise platformsExperience within banking, financial services or payment systems is highly desirable
