The Company
Sharp & Carter is partnering with a well-established, national manufacturer and wholesaler of building and construction products to recruit an experienced Senior Accountant. Our client operates across multiple states with a strong market position in its category, and offers genuine scale, structure and career development within a busy finance function.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a hands-on Senior Accountant role with primary responsibility for financial accounting integrity across the business, including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, inventory accounting and audit preparation. It's a great opportunity for a technically strong accountant to step into a senior, commercially focused position with genuine breadth and visibility.
Key responsibilities include:
Taking ownership of the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, including preparation and review of journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
Coordinating the month-end close process, including preparation and review of management accounts and detailed P&L; and balance sheet analysis
Maintaining oversight of inventory accounting and stock adjustments
Managing the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, depreciation and capital expenditure reporting
Overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable reconciliations and supporting working capital reporting
Reviewing bank reconciliations, cash flow reporting and foreign currency transactions
Coordinating BAS/GST preparation, FBT and payroll tax reconciliations and other statutory compliance requirements
Reviewing payroll accounting and employee entitlement provisions
Acting as a key Finance contact for external audit and coordinating year-end reconciliations and workpapers
Identifying and driving process improvement, automation and systems initiatives across the Finance function
Reviewing the work of, and providing guidance and development to, an Assistant Accountant and other Finance team members
About You
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
CPA or CA qualified, or progressing
Demonstrated experience in a Senior Accountant, Financial Accountant or Management Accountant role
Strong experience with month-end accounting, general ledger management and balance sheet reconciliations
Experience within wholesale distribution, importing, manufacturing or another inventory-intensive business highly regarded
Solid understanding of inventory and cost accounting, fixed assets, GST/BAS and payroll accounting
Advanced Excel skills and strong ERP/financial systems capability
Experience preparing audit workpapers and liaising with external auditors
Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to investigate and challenge unusual transactions
Prior experience reviewing or supervising junior accounting staff advantageous
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-Finance stakeholders
