With a strong regional presence and commitment to service excellence, we partner with clients to maintain and grow critical infrastructure.The Senior Protection Engineer will be a primary point of contact for Vertex's high voltage clients.
The role requires a hands‐on problem solver with solid protection relay testing and commissioning experience, combined with practical knowledge of primary HV assets and power systems commissioning.Regular travel to work sites and providing support remotely form essential part of this role.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform protection relay testing, commissioning, and fault finding on HV/LV electrical systemsConfigure and test protection schemes including:Line differential and distance protectionConduct commissioning activities for primary plant including:SwitchgearCTs and VTsRMUs and substationsExecute primary and secondary injection testingCarry out functional testing, interlocking checks, and end-to-end testingReview and interpret:Perform relay setting implementation and validationAssist with IEC ***** configuration and commissioning activitiesSupport power system studies and protection coordination implementationPrepare commissioning reports, test sheets, ITPs,



and technical documentationLead commissioning activities during shutdowns and brownfield projectsMentor junior engineers and techniciansLiaise with clients, site personnel, and project stakeholdersPreferred Relay & System Experience:Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:Schneider Electric – Sepam/Micom/EcoStruxureSEL – SEL relays and RTACPreferred Test Equipment Experience:Primary injection test setsHV insulation and diagnostic test equipmentDuctor and transformer test equipmentDegree in Electrical Engineering or A-Grade Electrician or equivalentMinimum 5+ years' experience in protection testing and commissioningStrong understanding of HV power systems and protection philosophiesPractical knowledge of primary HV equipment and commissioning practicesAbility to work independently on-site during shutdowns and commissioning projectsStrong troubleshooting and fault-finding skillsExcellent communication and report writing skillsHighly Regarded:Mining and heavy industrial experienceArc flash and power system studies exposureHV switching qualification or exposureGreat hourly rate + penaltiesFull-time role under the Vertex Enterprise AgreementMonday to Friday with regular overtime opportunitiesStructured onboarding and training for career progressionBe part of a high-performing, safety-first team backed by TasmeaReady to take the next step in your electrical leadership journey?
