This is your opportunity to be part of the Technical Publications Section producing quality guides and publications in plain English to assist the aviation community in understanding (and thus complying with) the aviation regulations.
The role of Senior Writer/Editor, Technical Publications is based within the Communications Branch of the Stakeholder Engagement Division.The Communications Branch is responsible for CASA's communication activities.
This includes broad public and industry consultation and communication strategies, media engagement, website and intranet management, social media channels, safety promotion activities, graphic design, video production, sponsorships and event management, and development of plain English guides.As the Senior Writer/Editor, Technical Publications you will need to:under limited direction, scope, develop and maintain plain English guides explaining complex aviation rules in a simple, easy-to-read writing style, and exercising good judgement to deliver quality work requiring little revision before finalisation of the given stage of document development.edit, peer review and quality check content produced by other team members to ensure a high-quality end product,



ensuring written content retains the intent of the regulations and aligns with the current Australian Government Style Manual and current accessibility requirementsbe responsible for planning own work goals and priorities that align with and achieve both own and team outcomes, and work collaboratively with other team members to ensure team objectives are met, assisting in planning and managing projects and meeting agreed timelinesattain, maintain and apply your knowledge of the Civil Aviation Act ****, Civil Aviation Safety Regulations ****, Civil Aviation Regulations ****, and associated standards policy and practice, CASA decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulationsbuild and maintain effective relationships internally within the Communications branch and with other business units within CASA such as National Operations Standards Division and the Legal, International and Regulatory Affairs Division, as well as externally with contractors and other suppliersmaintain and promote guidance material including safety information, education and training materials, advisory circulars, web-based information and other duties as requiredpromote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace in accordance with CASA values and behaviourswork supportively and cooperatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve shared outcomes.Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate must:have familiarity with the regulatory aspects of the aviation industry,



preferably with an aviation licence and a strong knowledge of at least one sector (such as flying operations or airworthiness)be able to interpret a range of document types to bring technical information together in meaningful content for the specified userbe able to develop and structure large documents considering the nature of the technical content and the knowledge of the readerhave excellent command of written English, be familiar with writing to a style guide, have at least intermediate word skills and have meticulous attention to detailhave a proven ability to work with minimal assistance, taking ownership of tasks and guiding/supporting others in the team as requiredhave suitable people skills to develop new relationships between the section and other areas of CASAhave strong organisational skills and the ability to contribute to continuous improvement of the product and the processes within the sectionbe able to demonstrate and exercise both initiative and judgment in the provision of accurate technical knowledge and advice in a specialist discipline (relevant to your role), achieved through the exposure to CASA's policies and proceduresbe able to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in a sensitive, respectful and equitable mannerpromote workplace safety, equity and diversity, and act in accordance with the CASA values and behaviours.About Our DivisionStakeholder Engagement Division helps to create and shape the environment in which CASA works to improve aviation safety by building trust and awareness with our stakeholders and by delivering credible, consistent communication, safety education and client services.
