APS6 - Senior Regulatory Officer, Vehicle Safety Operations BranchAustralian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts – Melbourne VICThe Vehicle Safety Operations Branch is Australia's national vehicle standards regulator.
The Branch is responsible for administering the Road Vehicle Standards Act **** (RVSA) which sets vehicle standards for all new vehicles entering the Australian market and regulates the supply to the market of used vehicles.This involves assessment of RVS applications for the provision of compliant road vehicles, supporting stakeholders through a central contact centre, managing the road vehicle and road vehicle component recall process and, compliance and enforcement activities under the RVS legislation.There are 4 sections in our Branch:Application Assessments and ApprovalsTechnical Assessments and ApprovalsCompliance and EnforcementRecalls Notification and Monitoring.The opportunity we have availableThe Vehicle Safety Operations Branch is Australia's national vehicle standards regulator.

Typical duties include:Application assessment under the RVSA by leveraging technical expertise and knowledge of legislative framework requirementsDevelopment of vehicle safety policy, procedures and standardsLiaison with stakeholders relating to applications, policy and standardsProviding expert or technical input and advice to other sections within the branchreviewing and assessing enquires related to alleged non-compliance with relevant legislationanalysis of information gathered during investigative activities (i.e. either desk or field) and making informed and proportionate regulatory enforcement recommendations for senior decision makersContributing to risk-based assurance or review activities,



such as audits and risk assessments for recallsAnalysis and assessment of information from assurance or review activities and drafting recommendations for decision makersLiaison with industry and government agencies, including state and territory regulators, other Australian Government agencies.Conducting engagement and escalation activities with suppliers and working with key industry bodiesDeveloping written reports, publications, briefings, correspondence, and technical papers on complex issues.Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal policies, processes and Standard Operating Procedures for the team.Inherent requirements for the roleThe inherent requirements for this role include:an ability to demonstrate their capability against the APS 6 Work level standardsan ability to engage and influence stakeholders in a professional and effective manneran ability to apply critical thinking to analyse information and reach sound conclusionsan ability to generate high-quality recommendations to support decision makingan ability to lead and support a team, providing guidance and oversight to achieve high performance and foster a positive, collaborative culturedemonstrated experience of the role of regulation and the legislative mandate.Desirable requirementsQualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics is desirable.Formal qualifications and / or relevant experience in any of the following: investigations, audit, law, regulation, compliance.Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or an ability and willingness to quickly obtain).
