About the role
The Mainframe Developer will support the Team Leader in the day-to-day development, maintenance, enhancement and support of enterprise applications within a complex ICT environment.
The role involves working on moderately complex to complex and sensitive applications, contributing to short- and long-term planning, and applying strong technical expertise to design, develop, test and maintain software solutions.
The successful candidate will work under limited direction and collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to resolve application issues, deliver enhancements, support operational requirements and contribute to continuous improvement.
The role may require flexibility during peak operational periods and time-critical delivery activities.
Key responsibilities
Design, develop, enhance, test and maintain robust, scalable enterprise software applications using
ADABAS Natural
.
Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve application issues in collaboration with technical and business teams.
Analyze errors and implement appropriate changes to ensure applications deliver the required outcomes.
Modify, repair and expand existing programs to improve operational efficiency and meet changing business requirements.
Produce high-quality technical, design and support documentation.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and less experienced developers, supporting capability development and professional growth.
Prioritise competing tasks and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets.
Contribute to project reporting, planning, governance and continuous improvement activities.
Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across geographically dispersed teams.
Understand stakeholder needs and communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Apply sound judgement,
technical expertise and professional integrity when making decisions and delivering outcomes within relevant policies, legislation and procedures.
Contribute to operational readiness and time-critical activities as required.
Support software upgrades, enhancements and modernisation initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and application performance.
Take on additional responsibilities as required and respond effectively to periods of increased workload.
Highly desirable criteria
Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining
high-quality, robust and scalable enterprise-level software solutions using ADABAS Natural
.
Strong experience with
Natural software version upgrades and NaturalOne Editor
.
Proven ability to analyse complex technical problems, identify appropriate solutions and facilitate system and business improvements.
Experience working with
SAS programming and/or PostScript
, including troubleshooting document rendering, managing print streams and supporting enterprise output systems.
Demonstrated ability to manage staff, develop technical capability, encourage career development and promote a qualified team culture.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, particularly when working across geographically dispersed teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and consistently deliver quality outcomes within required timeframes and budgets.
Desirable criteria
Relevant qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
Knowledge of Commonwealth Government frameworks, particularly ICT-related frameworks.
Experience working within highly governed, enterprise or government ICT environments.
Experience contributing to strategic planning, technical documentation, project reporting and governance processes.
Experience supporting business-critical systems in environments where reliability, security and operational continuity are essential.

Strong
