Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands‐on development for the re-platforming of a data processing application onto a contemporary, scalable platform.
This is a part‐time opportunity based in Dockland Melbourne on a initial 6‐month contract with possible extension.This role will suit a senior engineer or Tech lead who enjoys remaining hands‐on while also providing technical direction, solution design, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the technical design and implementation of an application re-platforming initiativeDefine the migration approach and develop Python solutions for complex data processing workloadsDesign and develop data-intensive applications, ETL workflows, APIs, and microservicesBuild data ingestion, transformation, validation, and processing pipelinesApply modern software engineering, DevSecOps, CI/CD, testing, and automation practicesConduct code reviews and promote clean code and engineering best practicesCollaborate with Solution Architects, platform teams, Project Managers, engineers,



and business stakeholdersSupport knowledge transfer and capability uplift across application support teamsKey RequirementsSuccessful candidate must be able to obtain a Baseline Security ClearanceStrong commercial Python development experience, including application design, optimisation, and troubleshootingProven experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead on application modernisation or re-platforming projectsStrong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean code principlesExperience developing data-intensive applications, ETL pipelines, APIs, and microservicesExperience integrating databases, external APIs, messaging platforms, and enterprise systemsStrong knowledge of batch and real-time data processing architecturesExperience with CI/CD, Git, automated testing, release management, monitoring, and loggingExperience designing microservices, event-driven architectures, and API-first solutionsStrong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiencesPrevious experience modernising or re-platforming legacy applicationsExperience within large enterprise, government, or regulated environmentsStrong understanding of security, authentication, authorisation, and compliance requirements
