Walsh Mining and Civil is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to help drive the next stage of our growth across Western Australia's mining, civil, earthworks, plant hire and labour hire sectors.
This is a hands-on commercial role suited to someone who already understands the WA mining and civil industries, has strong industry relationships and knows how to identify opportunities, build client relationships, manage tenders and convert leads into profitable work.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, commercially minded and confident getting out into the industry, meeting clients, visiting projects, identifying upcoming works and putting Walsh Mining and Civil in front of the right people.
The Role
Reporting directly to management, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities across WA.
Your responsibilities will include:
Identifying new mining, civil, earthworks, plant hire and labour hire opportunities
Developing and maintaining relationships with mining companies, civil contractors, project teams, procurement personnel and key decision-makers
Actively sourcing upcoming projects, tenders, RFQs and Expressions of Interest
Managing the tender process from initial prospect through to submission
Preparing quotations, commercial proposals and tender submissions
Assisting with project costings, plant hire rates, labour rates, mobilisation and commercial pricing
Following up submitted tenders and quotations and working to convert opportunities into awarded work
Promoting WMC's available plant, equipment, operators and labour capabilities
Maintaining an active pipeline of prospective clients, projects and tenders
Identifying opportunities to expand services with existing WMC clients
Attending client meetings, project sites,



networking events and industry functions
Conducting regular site and client visits throughout Western Australia
Representing Walsh Mining and Civil professionally within the industry
Working closely with management and operations to ensure awarded projects can be successfully mobilised and delivered
Assisting with vendor registrations, prequalification submissions and client onboarding where required
Participating in interstate and overseas business meetings and industry opportunities where required
About You
We are looking for someone with demonstrated experience in business development within the mining, civil construction, earthworks, plant hire, labour hire or related industries.
Ideally, you will have:
Proven experience generating and securing new business
A strong understanding of the Western Australian mining and civil sectors
An established professional network across WA mining, civil and construction
Existing relationships with contractors, project managers, procurement teams and industry decision-makers
Experience preparing tenders, quotations, RFQs and commercial proposals
Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project margins and costing
Knowledge of plant hire and/or labour hire operations
Strong negotiation and relationship-management skills
Confidence dealing directly with clients at all levels
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work independently and take ownership of business development activity
A results-driven approach with a strong focus on converting opportunities into revenue




Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tenders and opportunities simultaneously
A current Australian driver's licence
The ability to travel throughout WA and interstate when required
Previous experience working for a mining contractor, civil contractor, plant hire provider or labour hire company will be highly regarded.
