This is a Senior Risk Engineer (Mining) role where your mining and risk engineering expertise will protect clients' businesses, shape strategies, and drive meaningful change across the Asia Pacific region.
Working closely with underwriters, brokers and clients, you'll deliver meaningful risk insights, conduct on-site assessments, and develop practical risk reduction strategies.
Your engineering knowledge will directly influence how clients manage and mitigate risk.Key responsibilitiesPerform risk reviews, including on-site inspections and desktop reviews, with a focus on risk identification and the development of actionable risk mitigation strategiesProduce accurate, high-quality reports that explain the risk including construction, occupancy, protection, exposures and loss estimatesParticipate in the production of external publications for brokers and clients, as well as internal educational materials and technical papersSupport underwriting teams at client/broker meetings by demonstrating Starr's engineering expertise, approach and value addMaintain and expand technical and professional expertise to deliver current, innovative, and customer-focused risk engineering adviceMonitor risk trends and industry issues, identifying emerging risks specific to the Mining space in Asia PacificBuild and nurture team-oriented, client-centric relationships,
actively facilitating knowledge exchange among peers locally and across the Starr global teamHandle client requests with a consistently high level of professionalism and customer satisfactionManage own accounts and client programs and co-ordinate account requirements with underwriters, clients and brokersAbout youMinimum 15 years plus in a Mining / Insurance Risk Engineer rolePractical experience working in both mining and insurance risk fieldsExperience to review all types of mining operations both surface and below ground as well as downstream processing plantsBachelor of Engineering in either Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or equivalentExperience working in an international business environment with a strong focus on internal and external client engagementStrong problem-solving and process management skillsKnowledge of international standards such as NFPA, FM and Australian Standards, licensing frameworks, and other mining industry accreditationsExcellent communication and computer skillsSelf-motivated and autonomousWilling to cross-train in other industries, undertake internal Starr courses and participate in industry seminars and workshopsAbout usStarr Insurance is a leading insurance and investment organization, providing commercial property and casualty insurance, including travel and accident coverage, to almost every imaginable business and industry in virtually every part of the world.
