A rare and rewarding opportunity is available for innovative and experienced teachers to join the newly established Youth Education Team (YET) delivering education to at-risk youth, many of whom have had disrupted or negative experiences of schooling and often have lived through complex trauma and disadvantages. YET will deliver education to remanded young people in identified watchhouses in Queensland and will provide them with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and values that can enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.

Access the
Teachers will work collaboratively with the Executive Team, teachers and key stakeholders from interdepartmental agencies to implement an improvement agenda underpinned by QETC's vision statement of ‘unlocking learning'. The ideal candidates will have experience in student-centred learning with the ability to fulfil the QETC's obligation to close individual skills gaps, develop positive behaviours and social skills and create future pathway opportunities. Recent staff will be provided with an extensive induction tailored to this unique setting.
The curriculum will focus on individualised literacy and numeracy learning, and through the social development of students utilising restorative practice principles and trauma informed practice. Primary and secondary teachers are encouraged to apply.
Please note:
You will be required to work within a Queensland Police Service (QPS) custodial environment. This role involves direct contact and interaction with young people accommodated in the Southport and Ipswich Watchhouses.
YET staff will work in pairs when on site at the Watchhouses.
YET staff will be allocated a base school in each geographical location.
QETC's education delivery model runs over a 48-week school year. Under the 48-week school year model, general employment entitlements are the same as State Schools however this model requires flexible work agreements.

QETC is a multi-campus Department of Education school operating within South-East Queensland's Youth Detention Centres at Wacol. The centres cater to both male and female students from across the state who are on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences.
