Chris O'Brien Lifehouse invites applications and expressions of interest for the position of Richard Scolyer Professorial Chair in Brain Cancer Research.

Established in honour of Professor Richard Scolyer AO and supported by a $5.9 million Australian Government investment over five years, this nationally significant appointment offers an exceptional opportunity to lead an ambitious program of translational brain cancer research and improve outcomes for people affected by the disease.

About Chris O'Brien Lifehouse

Chris O'Brien Lifehouse is a comprehensive cancer centre with research embedded alongside clinical care. Through the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Research Institute, research spans discovery science, translational research, clinical trials and real-world cancer outcomes, with a strong focus on translating scientific discovery into improvements in treatment and clinical practice.

The Chair will work within a highly collaborative environment encompassing Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, the University of Sydney and Sydney Local Health District, with access to significant clinical and research infrastructure. This includes the Sydney Brain Tumour Bank, tumour modelling and ex-vivo drug screening capabilities, clinical trials and real-world cancer outcomes programs, together with established national brain cancer research networks.

The Opportunity

The Richard Scolyer Professorial Chair will lead a comprehensive research program focused on improving understanding of brain cancer biology, improving survival rates for patients with brain cancer and improving the quality of life of people affected by the disease.

The successful candidate will have considerable flexibility to shape the program around their expertise and research interests. The Chair will establish and lead a multidisciplinary research program,



supported by significant investment in research personnel, infrastructure and operational funding.

The Chair will develop national and international collaborations, mentor the next generation of brain cancer researchers and strengthen partnerships across academia, health and industry. They will also build a sustainable research program capable of attracting competitive, industry and philanthropic funding to support its long-term growth and impact.

The Person

We are seeking an outstanding clinician-scientist with an established or emerging international reputation in brain cancer research and a demonstrated commitment to translating research discoveries into clinical impact.

Candidates may come from medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, pathology or another relevant clinical discipline. They will bring research excellence, ambition and a collaborative approach, together with the capability to build a multidisciplinary research program of national and international significance.

This appointment will suit an ambitious clinician-scientist seeking the chance to shape the future of brain cancer research and treatment while building upon the remarkable legacy of Professor Richard Scolyer.
