We are seeking a skilled SQL Developer / Database Administrator (DBA) to support and optimise enterprise database environments while contributing to strategic data initiatives across the organisation. This role combines traditional SQL Server database administration responsibilities with a strong focus on database performance optimisation, enterprise data modelling, and integration enablement.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the availability, integrity, performance, and security of SQL Server environments, including participation in an on-call support roster. In addition, the role will play a key part in designing and documenting the Enterprise Data Model (EDM) required to support successful integration between new application services and reporting platforms being implemented within DFR.
This position is ideal for a data-focused professional who can bridge operational database management with enterprise architecture and data integration requirements.
Responsibilities
SQL Server Administration & Support
- Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server environments across development, test, and production platforms.
- Monitor database health, performance, storage utilisation, backups, and recovery processes.
- Participate in an on-call support roster and respond to production incidents and critical system issues.
- Implement and maintain database security, access controls, and compliance requirements.
- Manage database upgrades, patching, migrations, and configuration changes.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
Database Development & Optimisation
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL code, stored procedures, functions, views, and database objects.
- Analyse and optimise database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and capacity planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve database utilisation, scalability, and efficiency.
- Support the development and optimisation of ETL processes and data integration solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data quality, performance, and integration issues
Enterprise Data Modelling & Integration
- Development and documentation of the organisation's Enterprise Data Model (EDM).
- Collaborate with business, application, integration, and reporting teams to define enterprise data structures and standards.
- Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support new application services and reporting capabilities.
- Ensure data models align with enterprise architecture principles, governance frameworks, and business requirements.
- Support integration initiatives by defining data relationships, mappings, and transformation requirements.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries and metadata documentation.
Reporting & Analytics Enablement
- Support reporting and analytics platforms by ensuring high-quality, accessible, and well-structured data.
- Work closely with BI and reporting teams to optimise database structures for reporting workloads.
- Assist in developing data governance, master data, and data quality practices
Required experience
- Demonstrated experience as a SQL Developer, SQL Server DBA, or similar database-focused role
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration and development
- Advanced SQL scripting skills including stored procedures, triggers, functions, and performance tuning
- Experience managing database backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience with data modelling methodologies, including conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
- Strong understanding of data integration principles and enterprise data architecture
- Experience developing and maintaining Enterprise Data Models (EDM)
- Proven capability in database performance optimisation and capacity planning
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent documentation and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable
- Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Services, or cloud-based database platforms
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, including Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, OneLake, and analytics services
- Experience supporting enterprise reporting and Business Intelligence environments
- Knowledge of data governance, master data management, and metadata frameworks
- Experience with ETL tools and data integration technologies
- Exposure to enterprise architecture frameworks and large-scale digital transformation programs
