About the Role
The Electrical Engineering Technician will work alongside CSE's electricians, engineering personnel and installation teams in Coffs Harbour / North Boambee Valley,
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technical testing and performance checks on solar PV systems, battery energy storage systems, inverters, switchgear, metering equipment and associated electrical installations.
- Collect, record and analyse electrical and operational data including voltage, current, power output, inverter performance, battery performance, system yield and equipment operating parameters.
- Perform technical calculations and assess system performance against design expectations, manufacturer specifications and operating requirements.
- Analyse inverter, battery and monitoring-platform data to identify abnormal operation, faults, reduced system performance or equipment failure.
- Prepare technical findings, test results, reports, charts, calculations, tabulations and other technical records as required.
- Assist with diagnosing electrical, electronic, communications and control faults and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Assist with the testing, setup and commissioning of new solar PV and battery energy storage installations, including configuration of inverters, battery systems, energy meters, communications devices and monitoring systems.
- Verify equipment settings, operating parameters, firmware and communications prior to systems being placed into service and undertake post-installation performance checks where required.
- Assist with the assembly, installation, testing, modification and repair of electrical equipment and renewable-energy system components within the employee's qualifications, competencies and lawful scope of work.
- Inspect electrical equipment and completed installations for conformity with drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements and applicable standards.
- Support qualified electricians and other technical personnel with troubleshooting, rectification and workshop testing of electrical and electronic equipment.
- Assist management, electricians, designers and engineering personnel with technical assessment of proposed solar PV and battery installations.
- Attend sites to collect electrical, dimensional and operational information required for system planning and technical assessment, including switchboards, metering arrangements, loads, network connections and equipment locations.
- Interpret electrical drawings,
single-line diagrams, manufacturer documentation and system specifications and assist with the preparation or review of technical drawings, system layouts, equipment schedules and associated project documentation.
- Assist in determining quantities and technical requirements for electrical equipment, solar modules, inverters, battery systems, cabling, switchgear, protection devices, metering equipment and associated components.
- Prepare material lists and equipment schedules and provide technical input regarding equipment compatibility, suitability, project costing and quotations.
- Inspect completed work for technical defects, non-conformances or installation issues and assist with rectification planning and verification of corrective work.
- Maintain accurate technical records, test results, commissioning information, photographs, job notes and compliance documentation within ServiceM8 and other CSE systems.
- Support preparation of technical information for grid-connection applications and liaison with Distributed Network Service Providers, including Essential Energy, where required.
- Review inverter, export-control, metering and network information and assist with testing and verification of export-control and energy-management systems where applicable.
- Monitor solar PV, battery and inverter platforms to identify faults, communication failures and abnormal system performance, and conduct remote technical diagnostics where appropriate.
- Investigate faults reported by customers, field staff or monitoring systems and undertake site inspections and technical diagnostics where remote resolution is not possible.
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers and technical-support providers regarding complex faults, warranty matters and equipment performance.
- Provide professional technical assistance to customers and internal teams, explaining technical issues and recommended corrective actions clearly.
- Comply with applicable WHS legislation, CSE safety procedures, Safe Work Method Statements, site-specific risk assessments, isolation and testing procedures, and use required PPE.
- Perform only work that is within the employee's qualifications, competency and lawful authority.
Benefits and Perks
- Permanent full-time position based in Coffs Harbour / North Boambee Valley, NSW.
- $82,000 per annum base salary,
excluding superannuation and applicable industry allowances.

Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant electrical, electronic, mechatronics, electrical engineering technology or comparable technical qualification; or at least three years of similar environment and relevant experience where relying on experience in lieu of a formal qualification.
- Similar environment and relevant practical experience in electrical engineering technician duties, electrical systems, solar PV, battery energy storage, automation, control systems, instrumentation or electrical fault-finding.
Skills
- Sound technical knowledge of electrical systems and electrical equipment.
- Understanding of solar photovoltaic systems, inverters and battery energy storage systems.
- Ability to undertake structured electrical and technical fault-finding.
- Competency in electrical testing, data collection and technical analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, electrical diagrams and manufacturer documentation.
- Understanding of electrical metering, monitoring and communications systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify technical non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.
- Competency using computers, digital monitoring platforms and technical software.
- Accurate technical record keeping and report writing.
- Ability to work effectively with electricians, engineers, installers, customers and other stakeholders.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills and commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Licences and Other Requirements
- Current unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
- Construction Industry White Card where required.
- Relevant electrical, solar or other technical licences/accreditations where required for particular duties.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer and project sites.
- Ability to maintain required licences, competencies and training relevant to assigned duties.
- The employee is not required or authorised to perform work requiring an Australian electrical licence unless they hold the necessary licence or the work is otherwise permitted by law.
