About the role
The Electorate Office Manager is responsible for managing the overall operation of the Member’s office and acts as a key point of contact for electorate matters and community issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the day-to-day operation, workflow and administration of the electorate office.
- Supervising and supporting electorate office staff and fostering a positive, cooperative and productive team environment.
- Managing constituent enquiries and complex casework, including undertaking research, identifying solutions and liaising with government agencies and other organisations.
- Representing the Member within the electorate and assisting with parliamentary and community responsibilities as required.
- Managing office administrative processes, budgets and the Member’s Global Allowance allocation.
- Acting as the office site contact for HR, WHS, security, accommodation, property management, contractors and other operational matters.
- Undertaking relevant ‘Officer’ responsibilities under WHS legislation to support the Member, as the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking, to meet their legislative obligations.
- Establishing and improving office workflows, procedures and systems to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
- Monitoring community issues, undertaking research and analysis, and providing advice and briefings to the Member.
- Maintaining strong relationships with community organisations, stakeholders, government agencies and constituents.
- Supporting effective risk management and ensuring high standards of governance, confidentiality and professionalism across the office.
About you
The successful applicant will be someone who is highly organised, exercises sound judgement and enjoys working with people.
You will ideally demonstrate:
- Strong office management, administration and staff supervision skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills.
- High-level customer service and interpersonal skills, including empathy and discretion when dealing with people experiencing difficult or stressful circumstances.
- Strong problem-solving, research and analytical skills.
- The ability to deal calmly and professionally with complex, controversial or politically sensitive matters.
- Experience resolving disputes and navigating challenging conversations.
- The ability to build effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and across community and government.
- A high level of initiative, integrity, confidentiality and sound judgement.
- An understanding of parliamentary and government processes, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
Experience working in an electorate office, government, community services, stakeholder engagement, office management or a similarly fast-paced environment would be highly regarded.
The position primarily operates during normal office hours; however, some flexibility will be required to undertake occasional work outside normal hours to support community events and other responsibilities of the Member.
Salary and conditions
The current salary is $105,418 per annum inclusive of the 15% overtime allowance, increasing to $108,581 per annum from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 October 2026.
Conditions of employment are governed by the Assistants to the Members of the South Australian Parliament Enterprise Agreement 2025 and the Personal Assistants to the Members of the Parliament of South Australia 1989 Award.
