Camden Council
TCV London invites applications for the role, Senior Project Officer, Camden. This role will be responsible for delivering our wide-ranging projects and programmes across Camden and the role is made up of three key elements as set out below -
1. Green Gym. The Camden SPO will be primarily responsible for delivery of our Camden Green Gym. TCV's Green Gym programme is our flagship, national health and wellbeing volunteer offer, with an emphasis on delivering sessions that deliver group-based physical activity with a purpose. Our Green Gym volunteers come from a wide background, including through social prescribing link workers, referral agencies, or simply through word of mouth. We have volunteers who are motivated to join us for various reasons, this may include vulnerable adults with poor mental and/or physical health, it may be because they've recently retired, are looking for a career change or they simply want to support nature conservation and their local community.
TCV's Camden Green Gym was established well over 15 years ago. It's a busy and exciting project, with many long-term volunteers who have been with us for five years or more. The Green Gym works with volunteers at multiple different greenspaces around the borough, from nature reserves and parks, to woodlands, social and sheltered housing sites. It's a great opportunity for discovering Camden's spaces for nature!
2. Corporate Delivery. TCV has a well-established programme of corporate delivery across London and every year, thousands of volunteers come out with us across our sites, including in Camden. This role would be responsible for facilitating and delivering against local targets.
3.
Additional project work. In addition to the above, the project will generate extra income through delivery of small contracts as let by Camden Council or through other means such as the award of small grants. The post holder will be required to lead/ support on such initiatives as required.
The candidate may also be required to work outside of the borough in support of other wider TCV initiatives, including cover for other projects across London.
We are seeking a competent, adaptable and experienced person to join our London Health and Education team for this role. The post holder will have experience of planning and delivering practical nature conservation projects and manging the logistics of a project.
Skills should include a wide range of practical conservation activities, such as wildflower meadow and vegetation management, coppicing, building homes for nature, pathway construction and pond maintenance.
In addition, you'll have experience and confidence in supervising groups of volunteers, an ability to communicate effectively with people with a varying range of abilities and be able to think on your feet.
The successful applicant will meet regularly with local authority staff to identify tasks for the Green Gym programme.
Non delivery days are spent administering the project and might typically include writing up task reports, assessing risk, visiting sites, producing the weekly newsletter, social media updates and planning and monitoring meetings with the local authority. The post holder will need to maintain an on-going promotion of the Green Gym and recruitment of volunteers through activities such as meeting with social prescribing link workers, keeping information up to date on external volunteering web-based platforms and attending volunteer recruitment events.
The post is for 35 hours per week, permanent, Monday - Friday. There may also be some working outside core hours, for which TOIL can be claimed. There will be regular travel across Camden and monthly team meetings and training days at other TCV London sites. The post will be administered from Railway Fields Nature Reserve in Haringey, or Abbott's Park in Waltham Forest, both of which are adjacent to the Suffragette overground line.
A full driving licence is essential as the post holder will be required to drive a van to transport tools and materials.
