The UK in Australia Network consists of five Missions - the British High Commission in Canberra, as well as Consulates-General in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. The advertised role is based in Melbourne.

This is a part-time role within the Corporate Services Team, which is responsible for delivering effective HR, Finance, IT, Estates, and Security services to all UK Missions in Australia (the British High Commission in Canberra, and the British Consulate-Generals in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth).

Supported by the wider Corporate Services Team, this specific role is responsible for:

Supporting the Deputy Corporate Services Manager - HR, on the provision of first-class Human Resources services, including recruitment, payroll processing and HR admin for all Posts in the Australia Network.

Contributing to the effective delivery of corporate services across the Network through administrative support, business continuity assistance, and collaboration with corporate services and facilities management colleagues as required.

The job holder will need to work closely with the DCSM - HR, internal and external stakeholders (including Facilities Management staff), to deliver high-quality services to a range of stakeholders including the Consul General and senior visitors to post. The job holder requires strong (written and verbal) communication, an eye for detail, and a commitment to confidentiality.

Payroll Administration

- Assist with the preparation and quality assurance of monthly payroll instructions for submission to the payroll provider.
- Maintain records relating to leave, allowances, superannuation and other employee perks.
- Support the reconciliation of payroll reports and assist in resolving routine payroll queries.
- Assist in ensuring workers compensation records and policies are maintained accurately and statutory obligations are met.

HR Administration and Record Management

- Support accurate filing and record keeping of HR related information, ensuring data integrity and privacy.
- Assist in maintaining staffing data and recruitment records.
- Support and contribute to projects or work that aim to improve the employee experience across the Network.
- Support and contribute to projects or work that aim to improve the employee experience across the Network.

Broader corporate services support to facilitate the delivery of HMG’s priorities in Australia, including:

- Proactive management of the office environment, including routine maintenance needs, ensuring safety of staff and visitors.




- Provide basic IT support and troubleshooting under the guidance of the (remote) lead IT Support Officer, including upgrades as required.
- Provide information, advice, and signposting to staff on a range of corporate policies and procedures such as HR, finance, protocol, and logistics, including for VIP visits.
- Support network-wide resource management by requisitioning and reconciling goods and services, pursuing reimbursements where appropriate.
- Provide flexible ad hoc or logistical support as directed to support resilience.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

No direct line management experience, but role provides opportunities to gain experience of HR policies and practice, and to demonstrate strong people management skills. Some limited budget management experience is also possible.

Essential qualifications, skillsand experience

- Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and a genuine interest in the wellbeing of others.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, and the ability to build productive relationships at all levels.
- Good organisational skills, including time-management.
- Problem solving skills, and flexibility/willingness to respond to changing priorities. Must include good teamwork.
- Good math and data entry skills with an eye for detail, and a familiarity with excel.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

- Previous HR administration or payroll experience would be a bonus; payroll training is available but candidates must be comfortable analysing and entering numerical data, and able to identify errors.
