Due to continued growth and success, we are looking for a civil engineer with experience in groundworks to join our supportive and inclusive engineering team based in Yatala, Queensland.

The Role: Temporary Works Engineer – Groundworks
This is a multi-functional engineering role that sits at the intersection of engineering, construction and business.
You will work closely with contractors, consultants, sales teams and managers to develop safe, practical and cost-effective temporary works solutions using Mabey's range of shoring and groundworks equipment.
You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle - from pre-tender design and equipment selection through to construction, site support and project completion.
The role provides an opportunity to apply your existing engineering knowledge while continuing to develop your expertise in temporary works, structural steel and geotechnical engineering.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering support to customers from pre-tender through to project completion.
- Develop safe, practical and cost-effective temporary works and groundworks solutions using Mabey's range of equipment.
- Prepare engineering calculations, designs, drawings and technical documentation.
- Specify appropriate Mabey equipment based on project requirements, engineering principles and construction methodology.
- Apply structural engineering principles to the analysis and design of temporary steel structures in accordance with AS 4100.
- Apply geotechnical engineering principles to excavation support, retaining walls, sheet piling and groundworks solutions.
- Review site conditions, drawings and geotechnical information to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Provide technical and engineering support for live projects and assist customers with installation and de-installation methodologies.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits and project discussions as required.
- Support the Sales team by providing technical input during tenders, quotations and customer presentations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.
- Support the development of engineering knowledge and product understanding across local branches.
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced engineers and team members.
- Contribute to the growth and promotion of Mabey Engineering Services and the broader capabilities of Mabey.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an engineer who combines solid technical capability with a practical, solutions-focused mindset.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or equivalent.
- An interest in structural, geotechnical, temporary works or construction engineering.
- Strong skills in structural steel analysis and design applying AS 4100.
- Experience or demonstrated capability in geotechnical design, including retaining walls, excavation support and/or sheet piling.
- Experience with temporary works design methodologies and/or temporary support systems.
- Good working knowledge of Autodesk software: AutoCAD, Revit & Inventor and engineering drafting.
- Ability to develop safe and practical installation and de-installation methodologies for temporary support equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, contractors, consultants and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative team setting.
- Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- RPEQ / CPEng with a clear pathway to completion.
- Sheet piling and retaining wall design
- Trench shoring and excavation support
- Hydraulic shoring and temporary propping systems
- Structural steel and aluminium design
- Bailey or panel bridging systems
- Construction methodology and site-based engineering
