Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service. Servicing the communities of Cape York, with the main office is located in Cairns, Apunipima delivers public health care, and social and emotional well-being care, to community members. Being a part of the team at Apunipima means helping us deliver essential services as well as building capacity in communities to manage their own health care needs.

About the role
TheRegisteredNurse – Cancer Careis responsible forsupporting clients and their families to navigate cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role delivers comprehensive nursing and cancer care services toAboriginal and Torres Strait Islanderpeople of Cape York. This includes the provision of holistic primary health care, health education, screening and early detection, and the effective management of cancer care. The position also provides clinical support and contributes to capacity building within the team.
About You
- Degreequalification in Nursing
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (AHPRA) as a Registered NurseDivision 1
- QueenslandImmunisation Endorsement, or willingnessto work toward and obtain the endorsementwithin a specifiedtimeframe
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence '
- Australian Federal PoliceNational Police Check
- Extensive experience as a Practice Nurse/Registered Nurse in Primary Health Care, with advanced clinical problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate complex client care across the Primary Health Care continuum.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary nursing legislation, standards, policies and procedures, with proven compliance in infection control and cold chain management requirements.
- Advanced communication, consultation, negotiation and teamwork skills, with the ability to support holistic care, facilitate change and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues thatimpacton Aboriginal and/orTorres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/orTorres Strait Islander peoplein accordance withcommunity protocols and customs.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/orTorres Strait Islander community control.
- Must be willing and have the ability totravel in Cape York either by lightaircraftor 4WD asrequired.
