We are seeking a motivated Technical Estimator / Draftsperson to join our growing team in a hybrid role combining estimating, design development and technical drafting. This position suits someone who enjoys both the commercial and technical sides of engineering projects and wants to be involved from concept pricing through to production-ready documentation. Working closely with management, production and project delivery teams, you will help develop technical solutions, prepare concept and fabrication drawings, and compile accurate cost estimates for tender submissions and customer quotations.

Key responsibilities

- Review customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and tender documentation
- Develop preliminary designs and practical technical solutions for pricing purposes
- Prepare 2D and 3D models using CAD software
- Produce fabrication, workshop and production drawings
- Complete material take-offs, labour estimates and cost build-ups
- Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Prepare tender submissions, quotations and customer cost estimates
- Identify project risks, opportunities and value engineering options
- Liaise with clients, engineers and internal stakeholders throughout the tender process
- Support project handovers to manufacturing and delivery teams

About you

- Experience in steel fabrication, structural steel, manufacturing or engineering environments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Tekla or similar drafting software




- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements
- Strong understanding of fabrication, machining and welding processes
- Valuable commercial awareness and estimating capability
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and a willingness to take ownership of outcomes
- Trade qualifications, drafting qualifications or an engineering background (desirable)
- Experience in structural steel detailing, fabrication estimating, Australian Standards, rail, infrastructure or government-funded projects (desirable)
