An excellent chance has arisen for an experienced Estate Accountant to join a well-established private rural estate, working from a picturesque estate office at the heart of the local community.
This is a varied and autonomous position, providing responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the estate and its diverse enterprises. Reporting directly to the resident owner and their retained managing agent, the successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining strong financial control, providing commercial insight and supporting the ongoing management of the estate.
The ideal candidate will be financially proficient, commercially astute and constructively inquisitive, with the confidence to challenge existing practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the financial control and day-to-day accounting of the estate and its enterprises.
- Raise and process invoices, payments and inter-departmental charges accurately and efficiently.
- Complete regular bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
- Produce monthly creditor and debtor reports, highlighting outstanding amounts and areas requiring attention.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, analyse variances and provide clear commentary.
- Produce and analyse cashflow forecasts and report findings to the owner and their professional advisers.
- Attend monthly management meetings and present financial reports and recommendations.
- Maintain key financial records, including the Estate Asset Register.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and cashflow forecasts.
- Prepare year-end accounts and work closely with the owner's accountant to facilitate annual accounts and tax returns.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns.
- Coordinate payroll and pension information, checking reports, payments and journals.
About You
We’re looking for someone with previous accounting or financial management experience who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of their responsibilities.
You will ideally have:
- A relevant accounting qualification such as AAT, IAgSA, part-CIMA or equivalent.
- Experience working across a broad range of accounting responsibilities.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge and improve existing processes.
- Experience with Xero and Spotlight would be advantageous.
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- A discreet and professional approach, with a strong understanding of confidentiality.
- The flexibility and initiative required to work within a small, close-knit team.
