Oral Health Therapist – Graduate Mentorship Program

About the Role

We're looking for a recently graduated (or soon-to-graduate) Oral Health Therapists to join our team as part of our structured Graduate Mentorship Program. You'll work alongside experienced clinicians who will guide your clinical development, build your confidence, and help you grow into a well-rounded, independent practitioner.

What You'll Be Doing

- Providing preventive and therapeutic oral health care to patients across all age groups (paediatric, adolescent, and adult, depending on scope)

- Conducting oral health assessments, cleans, fissure sealants, and fluoride treatments

- Performing scaling, root planing, and removal of calculus, plaque, and stains

- Taking and processing radiographs (X-rays) in line with state radiation safety requirements

- Administering local anaesthetic where within scope of practice and state regulations

- Recording patient medical/dental histories, vital signs,



and periodontal and extra/intraoral examinations

- Referring patients to the dentist where conditions fall outside scope of practice (e.g. suspected periodontal disease, decay, abnormalities)

- Delivering oral health education and preventive advice to patients and families, including brushing/flossing technique and nutritional counselling

- Assisting the dentist with treatment and dental emergencies as required

- Maintaining, cleaning, sterilising, and checking dental instruments and equipment

- Working closely with your assigned mentor OHT AND Dentist for regular case reviews, clinical support, and feedback

- Participating in structured professional development sessions and skill-building workshops

- Collaborating with the wider dental team, including dentists and dental assistants

What We're Looking For

- A qualifying or recent degree in Oral Health / Oral Health Therapy (Bachelor of Oral Health or equivalent, accredited by the Australian Dental Council)

- Current or eligible registration as an Oral Health Therapist with the Dental Board of Australia (AHPRA)

- Current CPR certification

- Radiography/X-ray certification in line with state radiation safety licensing requirements

- A genuine passion for patient care and preventive dentistry

- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented attitude

- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow within a supportive environment

- Commitment to following clinical standards of care and best-practice infection control protocols





- Willingness to work within a structured clinical relationship, with the dentist as clinical team leader, and to liaise closely with the dentist in developing and offering treatment plans

- Sound understanding of professional, ethical, and regulatory obligations under the Dental Board of Australia's Code of Conduct

- New graduates are strongly encouraged to apply — no extensive clinical experience required

Performance Expectations

- Complete standard recall and recent patient hygiene appointments within (Insert Time) minutes

- Maintain patient rebooking/recall rate of (Insert %) for follow-up hygiene visits

- Maintain fluoride treatment acceptance rate of (Insert %)

- Maintain hourly production benchmark of $(Insert Amount) (unassisted) / $(Insert Amount) (assisted), where applicable

Availability & Rostered Hours

This role requires availability to be rostered within the following operating hours:

- Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm

- Friday: 8:0 00 am – 6:00 pm

- Saturday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

We offer flexibility within these hours — for example, you may prefer to work 8:00 am–6:00 pm some days, 10:00 am–7:00 pm on others, or 12:00 pm–7:00 pm depending on what suits you. Exact days and shift patterns can be discussed and tailored during the interview process.
