This opportunity offers a permanent, full-time role for individuals aspiring to pursue a career as a Legal Assistant within a bustling Criminal Law Practice. Joining a tight-knit team, you'll become part of an office setting comprised of 12 dedicated staff members, fostering a supportive and collaborative atmosphere.
Ideal candidate qualifications
- At least 2 years’ experience working as a Legal Assistant, preferably in Crime (but not essential)
- Be able to practice and demonstrate confidentiality, sensitivity, empathy and integrity in all aspects of the role
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent operating knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and EvolveGo (or similar)
- Victoria Legal Aid Atlas experience will be highly regarded
- Victoria Magistrates Court CMS lodgement also highly regarded
- Experience with dictation typing / Bighand
- Excellent keyboard skills
- Ability to work well in tight time frames
- Ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders
Duties
- Liaising effectively with clients, barristers, courts, prosecution, experts and informants via letter, email and/or telephone.
- Drafting/proof reading documents
- Victoria Legal Aid ATLAS processing
- Elodging
- Diary management
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system advantageous
The successful applicant must hold the following competencies: Excellent communication skills, decision making skills, Initiative, quality approach to work and accuracy, resilience, motivation, time keeping, interpersonal sensitivity, problem solving skills with a flexible "can do" attitude towards your work and the ability to "think on your feet".
