Aneducation support class position at this rangewillperform tasks that arecarried out inaccordance withguidelines,acceptedpractice,and schoolpolicy under supervision anddirection. Thismayincludecoordination ofother education support class staff within the work area oreducational program.
Aneducation supportclass position supports theeducational services being provided tostudents butmust notinclude dutiesof a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1of the Educationand TrainingReform Act 2006 (Vic)or itssuccessor. Supervision ofstudents canberequired individually oringroups upto4incontrolledcircumstances andwhere the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/orqualificationsofuptothree years canberequired at this level(noting that Registered Nurse isnot includedat this level,the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
Aroleatthisrangemayinclude:
- Specificsupport taskstoachieveoutcomes. Typically,thiswillinvolve accountabilityforasingle function,(e.g.ensuring data isproperly maintained)or theco-ordinationofaworkarea under thedirection ofthe principaloramanager.
- Assistingteachers,withinaneducational program,byundertaking specific support tasksorthecoordinationof the support function.
- Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks,medical intervention support tasks,or other specialisedstudent/teacher support roles (e.g.enrolled nurses performing the role asdescribed inschedule 3). Theseroles require specific qualificationsand/ortraining,including roles where further training must be undertaken from time totime.Theroleisfor aspecific purpose,for whichthere willbedirectaccountability asopposed tosupport rolesthat are carried outbya range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.
- Technical tasksthatrequireasound knowledge ofbasic technical and/orscientific principles thatareused todevelop andadapt work methodsandmakejudgements wherethereareclearguidelinesandlimited options.Routine technical support inlibraries,science, and information technology would be typical examples.
Aneducation support class position at thisrange commencing atthebase willinitially belimited toundertakingroutine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction.Work that carries some degree ofindependencewillgenerallyinvolve a limited number of tasks performed on aregular basis where priorities are clear,procedures are well established,and direction is readily available.Subject to any specific qualification and/ortraining requirement, aneducation support class employee employed in this rangemaybe progressingly required toundertake coordination,specialised student/teachersupport tasks,or technical tasks as experience inthe role isgained.
Responsibilities
Responsible for providing first aidassistance to students,staff,and visitors,maintaining accurate health andincident records, managing first aid supplies,and ensuring compliance with schoolhealth and safety procedures.Liaises withparents,carers,and emergency services whenrequired, while contributing toasafeandcaring schoolenvironment.
